Tutorial Problem Set #6

Submit the answers to the following problem on August 18 (SLIIT) and August 15 (Curtin), 2017
in class. Write your registration number clearly on the top of your answer sheets.

1) Find vertical and horizontal shear stress distributions of a beam having a T-shape cross
section and hence obtain the shear flow distribution in the cross section. Take flange
and web thicknesses as t, beam height as (h+t), breadth of the flange as h and shear
force in the cross section as V. Assume h>>>t. Hint: Find the centroid of the cross section
first and then locate the neutral layer and measure distances from this neutral layer.
