A Trip To Europe (Amsterdam-The Netherlands , Barcelona-Spain ,
Paris, France) From 19-29 Sept 2014 with present consciousness

Forward :
First of all, I would like to say thank you and really appreciate the intention of my father
bringing me to a different society in Europe out from Malaysia to witness the lifestyle of both
local and non-local people in the above three countries mentioned earlier above for the 10
days trip in Europe.

I would like to say thank you to both of my parents as they raise me up until to the age of 21
and to my relatives, people around me like my friends, hawkers, and the entire society as well
as the King and Queen in Malaysia to have this kind of expensive and only chance letting
myself to participate in this 10 days trip. I felt grateful to every single drop of water, air that I
breath ,the greenery and every life form that support my earth body to have this kind moment
here writing this report about the last 10 days what i have truly experience in Europe. Last but
not least, I gratefully appreciate to the Buddha, the Shanga and the Karma system to let me
have this chance to have this new experience in Europe. Without you all, I will not be in this
world , this present time to experience all these call Life.

This report is produced by a person where his experience is age 21 and only traveled , have
experienced to two foreign countries : Thailand (Bangkok) and Europe (Amsterdam,
Barcelona and Paris) which these two countries are considered to be a Human conditioned
place which is more suitable to live in compared to other places where there is more nature
conditioned and maybe more harsh to travel and live by humans.

The 4 Basic Needs of A Human Being :

For a self plan trip , the four basic needs are clothing ,eating, staying and travelling are
crucial. In travelling, one must plan in respective for the four basic needs which is important
for a comfortable travelling in the world. First is clothing, different clothing is needed in
different country and the clothing , suitable for the climate of that country . Secondly is
eateries, travelers prefer more to eat back their own local food so is better to find out the
location of the closest local food they can get in foreign country by searching locations before
going to the trip. Popular food in foreign country can be favored by travelers .Thirdly , better
choose a place to stay which is near the city center or any places where the popular attraction
points are concentrated . Not only that, a place which has high security , more public safety
and easy access to public transport is a more favorable place for travelers to stay. Last is the
access to movement = travel about. Travelers can choose either by personal driver like taxi or
a rent vehicle and public transport like metro, trains, buses ,walking and cycling to move
about during the trip in a city .
Ones health condition which relative to age is the most important factor in planning a trip.
Last but not least, the travelling budget and time constrain are important factors affecting
ones trip while planning, be aware of that too.
In addition , the culture from a society can be further notice in the style of the four basic
needs. The definition of culture is the quality of a particular group of collective human
experience which relates to their environment in term of language, religion, cuisine, habits,
music and arts. Or in other words, also defined as the cumulative deposit of knowledge,
experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings, religion, roles, spatial relations, notions of
times, hierarchies, concepts of the universe and material objects and possessions acquired by
a group of people . Every part of the world they will be a different culture as culture changes
with the environment as well as the level of human experience as individual self experience
towards the environment .

Pros & Cons of the European Society compared to Malaysia Society :

- Pros

The pros of the European society has a general better attitude which are more creative, having
better infrastructure , better law enforcement, better level of mindfulness, good spirit on
preserving old buildings and other creations , having a more mix culture between people who
are living in the same region and more responsible . The European is a more open and eager
to learn society which contribute to their creativeness in producing products and solving daily
problems. In Europe, the people has creative ideas on creating eye attracting architectural
buildings , both interior and exterior like the Amsterdam Public Library as well as the Music
School of Amsterdam , Het Muziekpakhuis . Lots of creative colourful handcrafts which suits
the modern lifestyle are available in Paris . There are lots of shops selling these items in Gare
Saint Lazare but the price are more expensive as the products are unique and are design by
various artists. Moreover, there are street performers suddenly appear and gives the crowd a
surprise . Each of the street performers are unique and they are their own designer where their
performance will bring certain theme and meaning to the crowd.

 Not only that, they put their creativity in
their toilet as well to make the toilet as not
a mundane place just for excretion.

The city of Europe has a better public

transportation system and a well developed
underground and on road rail-way system . The most complete metro is situated in Paris
which the first metro line was opened in 1900 just after the Paris World Exposition. The
Metro in Paris has the Sixth most used Metro in the world and almost every part of the city
region is connected by an average 500m of station-station which is very convenient to travel
underground in Paris. Another interesting facts about the Metro in Paris is that the Paris metro
runs more than 600,000 miles per day that equals to the distance that can travel around the
world for 10 times in just a day .

Other public transport in Europe are very matured and the vehicles are well maintained . One
thing different from the Malaysian Public transport to that of Europe is that the Europe public
busses are auto vehicles and has a well design hydraulic system for lower landing which is
important for the convenience of old people and handicaps. Taxies in Europe are more
environmental friendly compared to Malaysia's Taxi which uses old vehicles . Taxies in
Europe are now in Hybrids cars and other NGVs vehicles as well. There are lots of bicycles
to rent in Europe as a greener approach for travelling in the city where the price is the
cheapest among all the other means of transportation .

The law enforcement in Europe is better and having less corruption where they have a more
proper system in planning and controlling traffics as well as security. The security forces and
police at Europe are more capable and
has a better body stamina as police there are
not only on automated vehicles, but also
cycling and riding on horses .

 The people who are working in Europe are more mindful and more capable. This can
be seen in the number of people taking care in a shop and in a construction area . In common,
there will be at most 3 persons working in any shops , hostel and bars in Europe.
Surprisingly, the workers are working with passion , smiling face and a good attitude treating
customers ; not like in Malaysia where there are more numbers of workers in a shop where by
the workers are under stress and seems to be forced to go to work. Workers at the
construction site are more professional and have greater patients at work. In order to produce
a good finish work, the worker themselves must be passion in doing the construction as the
country is part of their bigger home , not like in Malaysia where we have imported too many
foreign cheap labours where they do not have the heart to really come to this land to work as
a construction and other means of
worker as this is not their country.
Therefore, many of the Malaysia
buildings, housing development and
projects fail to meet the higher
standard of building internationally.

 The European has a great heart in appreciating and keeping old art work , buildings
and other precious old items from their ancestors. They retain most of the old architectural
buildings which brings many feelings, memories back to the olden times and they try their
best to restore the old buildings by using suitable modern architectural design which also
match with the existing old design of the building. Not only architectural and building , the
European also love to conserve the old cars models which brand namely Mercedes Benz and
so on.

A more mix culture in Paris , Barcelona and other European Cities can be observed . A
mix culture of white and black man are well defined in Paris, France. There is little or no
discrimination of darker skin people in Europe as they are more open hearted . Even foreign
workers and other black man can be a employers of a company . Not only that, most Asian
hawkers selling Asian foods, items and providing hair-wash service are situated in the
Chinese street in cities of Europe and one of the famous Chinese street is the La Fattaye in
Paris.

The European Society is more responsible in general. Their toilet has a brush where by public
is responsible for keeping the public toilet clean for all the time . Not only that, they are more
responsible in their water usage as each of their toilets in residential houses, hotels and even
in public has a two button flushing modes.

-Cons

Whenever there is a good side, there must be an opposite bad side to define its good side of
every society in the world. One of the cons in the society of Europe is the Deface of public
walls, doors and even the side of the sound reflectors and walls along the rail way and the
station itself. Although the government authority allow these people to do so, these deface
will definitely bring an uncomfortable viewing to the city area as most of the deface are
drawn to serve no meaning and are messy. Luckily that these people did not deface the
decorated olden times doors and other older and precious buildings, or not is a total failure of
the European society .

The other bad side of the European are that the act of Sex, Drug and Smoking is too much
and too open which is really bad for the next generation as these things are negative to a
human mind and attitude. One of the cause of suffering is that the object is near-by to the
human senses. Therefore, these things must not be open for public view as the children and
teenagers may counter these negative things. The most open Sex trading which approved by
the authority is in Amsterdam in the Red Light District . There are many bars, restaurants and
shops selling leakers , cigarettes and alcoholic drink which are the tools for temporary
relaxation but is bad for long term livelihood and intention. There is a small quantity of
teenagers in Europe who does not go to school but to enjoy life at the bars, restaurants and
other places . They mainly spend their time smoking , drinking and talking with one another
at those places which is a waste of time and life as they are the future engine for the country.
In Europe and in other country as well, a non-shanga group or people get together meeting
each other in places where there is many enjoyments like bars and restaurants are the most
dangerous people as they can get wild and crazy. There was once a cyclist is being forced by
a careless man to hit one of the man in his group , although the cyclist apologized to the man
but the man still kick the bicycle angrily blaming the cyclist fault without knowing the cause
of the problem. Not only that, there was a group of unstable emotion men walking past a
Asian tourist and try to frighten him by scolding and pushing him a side . Unlucky for the
Asian tourist that he is just alone, these men are the bully and these men are unconsciously
reacting to their daily stress and desire to a innocent Asian tourist.

A group of people can be both powerful in good and bad as this is one of the psychology
effects of the mind . When you belong to a group of people, you will feel more secure and
powerful and you will naturally do things that you normally will not do when you are alone .
A shanga group is the only beneficial group that will continue serve and contribute towards
the society and the environment while other groups are blood sucking groups with their own
agenda and own evil intention

Common problem of society in every part of the world :

The Ego is the main problem which has created all the common problems namely fear,
control, towards a materialistic word and monkey mind attitude in the society. The Ego is
generally a mind that always emphasis on its own importance , always taking and no giving
out like a tape worm or cancer cells in a human body that will cause the host together with
itself to get destroyed in a short time. All the global problems like hunger, the increase
frequency of natural disasters and global warming are all very related to the Egoistic mind
which creates the Egoistic society. Almost every society in the world is the Egoistic Society
that has all these problems, is just the level of appearance towards the public. First, is fear.
The fear of a society comes from the fear of everyone because each of us is part of the
society. In the name of religion where the society has always been emphasizing is a place for
well being and a place which is close to god, but religion plays a totally different role in the
society. Religion is a place for human fear and human problems. We only go to god when we
have our own problems that we cannot solve by our own hence creating our own fear that we
cannot do this or achieve that in the future due to the existing problem or the lack of
something we feel still exist. For example, if we are not doing well in our business, we go to
our own religion place to pray for our own god that we wish the god to help us and by doing
so, we make an exchange with the gods by money and other items. Religion is a selfish place
of business in the society and not a true place of realizing the meaning of life, the meaning of
existence and not even practice the goodness to purify one's mind, heart and body in daily life
to serve other people. People do business with Gods and to whatever they believe to be more
superior than themselves by praying themselves to be rich, to be okay in terms of health ,
wealth, studies and so on ; in exchange with that, we offer offerings and by doing other
activities of scarify like rituals , killing animals and so on for the Gods and their own belief .

Sadly to say, religion is one of the control station of the government and politics towards the
people so that the people stay influenced and being more and more conditioned by them. This
kind of controlling has long exist since the time of a civilization exist. New people being born
in this society are being more and more conditioned by the their parents, schools, friends, the
working place, the society and lastly their own religion. That is why the problem in every
society cannot be solved and there is still a separation although we are all humans because we
are constantly being influence and conditioned by the media and by the society that is not a
true human society. We can see control everywhere in the society, like the government over
the people, the boss over his employees , the leader over his troop, the parents towards their
children and at last, we try to control our own mind by our own interest. Control is not an
option if one really wants to succeed in something or to have a better future. This is because
control comes from separation whereby there is the observed and the observer. But if we see
the true way of living, there will be no control but a total freedom of life . The true way of
living is just to observe life as the way it is and going according to ones natural potential, not
towards the direction that our parents, the society and the government want us suppose to
be. Not according to what the society tell us what we feel right to be and not to be in this
society as this society has long been corrupted . Moreover, we always think that our species is
more important than other species and some religion teaching discriminate animals and other
life forms to have a lover quality than us .That is why we are constantly doing actions that are
destroying and hurting animals and the environment although we do not have the intention to
do so directly.

The monkey mind is very related to the Ego mind as both arise dependent upon one another.
The monkey mind is a active mind which is wild and love to do all kinds of things that is why
one of the common problem in the society is the monkey mind society. Imagine putting a
monkey inside a grocery store and see what will happen next, is the same thing happen in the
society now which creates the problems non-stop . Problems regarding to violence, sex, drug,
black trading , and other unnecessary doings that are not beneficial towards the well being of
others and oneself are all origin from the monkey mind. We all have monkey mind and we
cannot blame is our own fault because we are being born in this condition and we are living
in this monkey mind society . But if we do nothing to transform and purify the monkey mind
into mindfulness, that is our biggest fault in our life as we go through our life fully dependant
to our monkey mind which will be like auto-pilot and like a dream world that we cannot
really experience life to its fullness, cannot make conscious decision, no true freedom but just
the responses of action and reaction .

Another common problem of the world society is that the society is going towards the
direction of the Materialistic world. Many of today's society define a person success through
material wealth where a successful person need to own a big house, a luxurious car to drive,
luxurious items and name in the society. The material society no longer emphasize on
spiritual development, long lasting personal happiness and the well being of everyone in the
society. The material society also make the separation between humans more obvious than
ever since different people will have different ability to own different quality and quantity of
material objects in the world.

In conclusion, wherever there is separation and discrimination they will never be a long
lasting peace and a better natural environment to live in no matter how the people , society,
government and politics say so great about Love, Peace, God and all the beliefs and
philosophy that they belief that can make a better world.

The problems : Egoistic, Fear, Control , Monkey mind and Materialistic are all closely
connected with one another .
 The solution to the common problems of the society in the world :

The main solution to solve this massive human collective psychology problem are listed as
Education on mindfulness and potential based, Meditation session for everyone, Right
intention (Same dream) for everyone and Leader for themselves that needs great co
operations , time and the willingness of every individual to change in this present society.

Mindfulness and potential based education is the most relevant education at all times as this
education opens up the true potential of every unique individual and letting them to realize
their true potential and wisdom which is relative to their living environment . Not those kind
of education where only focus what a person should be in the future society, on getting good
results, only focus on hardworking and only studying with a narrow view . The Isha
foundation is one of the successful example of mindfulness and potential based education
which is founded by Sadhguru in India where is a non-religious, non-profit, public service
organization which addresses all aspects of human wellbeing .

In higher education, meditation session must come in and begins to blend with the life of
students . This is because meditation is a way to make us more mentally fresh by reformat our
mind from the busy daily apps that the Monkey Mind runs on. Meditation is also good for our
physical health as it helps to regulates the life energy throughout the body. Meditation is a
tools for us to truly observe the errors on oneself when we are in steady state with a quiet
mind, which we cannot observe ourselves with the busy monkey mind . Meditation is the
only tools that we can have to expand and harmonize our individual consciousness with the
universal consciousness where we can realize and experience the deepest answer to the
deepest question of humanity and other universal secrets as well.

In order to make a great change , everyone should have a same right intention as we are
living in a world of resonance . The right intention will born only from mindfulness and
meditation that is the intention of transforming the Egoistic mind to a Buddha mind (Non-
Egoistic mind) .Other right dreams proposed here are to create a better world with good
environment for lifelong learning and to contribute consistently towards others wellbeing
regardless of who they are.

Finally, if everyone has achieve certain realization or buddha-hood ; there will no need to be
any leader, government or politics in the world to manage the society as everyone knows
what to do and everyone is a leader for their own actions. All the problems in the world
including environmental problems will all be eradicated as each of the enlighten ones take
everything into consideration in their daily life.

Special on - Environmental Sustainability of Europe relative to Malaysia.

In general, the European has a more Environmental conscious mind than Malaysians.

European in treating municipal solid waste:

In general, Europe is still improving on their waste material management and policy. The
goal of reducing municipal solid waste up to 80% and 50% of total waste recycling in 2020 in
all the Europe countries is integrated into the European Environmental Policy, notably the
European Commission's Roadmap on a resource efficient Europe (EC,2011) and the EU's
Waste Framework Directive (EU,2008) . (EEAReport,2013) . Unfortunately, Europe now is
generating a massive 16 tonnes of material per person annually , of which 6 tonnes turn as
waste. The European economy suffer an economy lost as the potential 6 tonnes of secondary
raw material per person annually such as metals, wood, glass, paper and plastics are in the
waste streams. In 2010, there were only 36% of the total 2.5 billion tons of waste were
recycled and the rest of the 64% of waste are either end up in landfills or burned. (European
Commission, 2014)

In Amsterdam, 99% of the 1.4 million tons of municipal and industrial waste
generated annually us used to generated electricity thanks to the AEB , one of the world
largest waste-to-energy company that has 120 years of experience in waste processing. The
AEB plant has the highest efficiency of waste to energy conversion at 30% whereby a huge
added value to the goals of the City of Amsterdam to reduce CO2 emissions by 40% in 2025.

Amsterdam will have the largest future-oriented energy park industrial BioDiesel plant in
Europe which the company is the BioDiesel Amsterdam B.V. which the company is
commission to the Austrian BioDiesel company, a part of Greenmills. The company will
recycle vegetable and organic waste materials. Not only that, the company will also generated
electricity from the bio waste for the city's life. (BDI, 2009)

Ecoparc De Barcelona is a Metropolitan plan for comprehensive solid waste

treatment is making Barcelona a greener city to life . The Ecoparc de Barcelona is an
environmental facility which is dedicated in treating and recovering precious reusable
material in solid waste streams . The plan uses the 3-phase process namely pre-treatment,
methanzation & cogneration and composting to treat and to recover secondary raw material
for new in Barcelona. The role of Ecoparc de Barcelona is to seperate waste into Organic
matter for selective collection and Undifferentiated waste (residual waste) , then follow by
the 3-phase process in treating and recovering the waste. (Ecoparc, 1990-2009)
 In Barcelona, we can see two types of
rubbish bins in the above picture, one
with the brown cap for organic matter waste collection bin and the other white cap for the
Undifferentiated waste (residual waste) collection bin.

municipal solid waste one the street of Barcelona.

In Paris, the rate of recycling municipal solid waste is not as intense compare to Amsterdam
and Barcelona. Generally, the city of Paris picks up trash daily and recycling twice a week
with schedule differing by arrondissement. Gardienne in apartment buildings is responsible in
taking out the bins to the street for pickup by the city crew. (Posted in Paris, 2010)

Europe in treating wastewater :

The Dutch has the best wastewater treatment technology goes in the city of Amsterdam in
Netherlands. This is because Amsterdam is all in the while situated in one of the most water
densest area where the city is just above the thick water zone. Amsterdam has their own
Dutch water technology company operating since 1900. The Dutch developed the state-of-
the-art wastewater treatment process that is faster, cleaner and less expensive which uses the
Nereda process . The Nereda process is the primary treatment process based on using groups
of microorganism that form compact sludge granules that quickly sink to the bottom and this
process allow wastewater to be purify four times faster than traditional settling tank method
and saving 20% more energy . The secondary treatment process in the Netherlands uses
aerobic and anaerobic techniques to treat concentrated wastewater which no longer diluting
the wastewater with rainwater. This gives the advantages of the anaerobic techniques to have
small,compact reactor which also generated biogass for producing electricity. The
purification of water continue in the tertiary treatment thanks to the Dutch PWN technologies
which utilises special ceramic membrane technology that drastically reduce the investment
cost. Apart from that, some of the treatment plant in the Netherlands uses Ozonation, Uv
lights in their tertiary wastewater treatment to produce drinking water that is free from
chlorine but the technology is good for a small area only. Recently, the Dutch is using
activated carbon and chorals to further polish the water into a more suitable water for
drinking. Thanks to these technologies that is discovered, invented and developed by Delft
University of Technology , now 99.9% of Dutch household have access to clean, chlorine-

This picture shows the efficiency of using the Nereda process which involve using compact
sludge granules to help heavier particles sink to the bottom of the water.

The above picture shows the Working PWN technology which combined ion exchange and
ceramic microfiltration technology in the plant.

Not only that, since it is still consider expensive to treat and reuse wastewater for daily use;
the Dutch emphasize on the efficient use of water and collects , treat and reuse rain water as
part of their drinking water as rain water is not as contaminated as wastewater produced by
household and industrial.
In Barcelona, the Baix Llobregat wastewater treatment plant in Spain is one of the Europe's
larger plant treating wastewater for 2 million people and having a capacity of 420,000m3 of
wastewater per day. The plant is a biological activated sludge plant and is operated by
Depuradora del Baix Llobregat SA which is a public company owned by the Spanish
Ministry of the Environment. The plant utilises the combination of Actiflo and disc filters
which provide the compact plant to deal with heavy hydraulic wastewater loadings. This
combination helps the plant to save space up to 80% used by the plant itself. The tertiary
treatment in the plant in Barcelona uses a unique ACTIDisc technology which is developed
by Veolia which consist of 2 phase process. The first phase consist of settling by sand in the
Actiflo process whereby the Actiflo consist of four phases namely Coagulation, flocculation,
maturation and lamella separation, the second phase consist of tertiary filtration disc filters
performed by Hydrotech disc filters which uses 10 disc filters with a mesh width of 10 m.
(Kruger, 2014) The Actiflo process is a four in one process in a compact tank reactor which
consist of 4 tanks namely PAC Pre-contact tank, Coagulation tank, Flocculation tank and
Settling tank .
The diagram above shows the cross section and steps of the Actiflo process . PAC stands for
Powder Activated Carbon.

The Actiflo process involve adding powder activated carbon into the raw water for the
adsorption of non-flocculable organic matter, taste, pesticide and emerging micro pollutants
of the raw water. After addition of activated carbon, the raw water enter the first tank , the
contact tank under vigorous mixing condition to facilitates the adsorption reaction of the
compounds . Coagulant is added in the coagulation tank to initiate the coagulant reaction ,
after that, the water will enter to the flocculation tank where polymer and micro-sand . In the
third tank , with the help of polymer bridging, the activated carbon and hydroxides forms
high density ballast and flocs .Then , the flocculated water enters to the settling tank where
the ballast and flocs settles quickly while the clear water rises to the top and enters into the
collecting water outlet. ( Veolia, 2-10-2014)

treatment in Barcelona wastewater
treatment plant. In the plant, there are
at least 10 units of the large size
ACTIDisc to treat a capacity of 14400
m3 of wastewater at a time.

The advantages of the ACTIDisc process is the water quality obtained is better than any other
quality obtained in similar processes, very short start up time and is operated by gravitation
which no pumps is required hence saving electricity cost.

In Paris , the Seine Aval Wastewater Treatment plant is the largest plant in Europe which is
located in Acheres and began its operation in 1940. The plant is a nitrification plant The plant
has upgraded since 2000 and completed the first phase upgrade in 2007 where the upgrading
of the project is the expansion of the sludge processing arrangement , the installation of 5
HVA substations and other equipments. The second phase upgrade was in 2011which is
responsible for the upgrading of the denitrification facility in the plant. The plant is still now

is having a treatment capacity of 449 million gallons of wastewater per day just and is
currently treating wastewater for three-quarters of the residents in the metropolitan area in

Here by, by ending this report, I felt guilty and sorry for the water and material that I waste
every day , the food that I can't manage to finish , the nonsense actions that I have done that
is a waste of precious time and to those who I have hurt them during the 10 days Trip in
