Science 9th Grade

1. What is matter?
A: Its anything that has a mass and takes up space

2. What is Chemistry?
A: Its the study of the matter and how the matter changes

3. What is substance?
A: Its a single kind of matter that is pure, meaning it always has a specific makeup

4. What is matter made of?

A: All matters in universe are made of more than 100 different substances called
elements

5. What is an element?
A: Is a substance that cannot be broken down into any other substance by
chemical or physical means, elements are the simplest substances

6. How elements can be identified by?

A: They can be identified by their specific physical and chemical properties

7. What is Atom?
A: Its the basic particle from which all elements are made

8. What is chemical bond?

A: Its a force of attraction between 2 atoms

9. What is molecule?
A: Its a group of two or more atoms held together by chemical bonds

10. What is compound?

A: Is a substance made of two of more elements that are chemically combined
in a set ratio

11. What are the 2 kinds of mixtures?

A: Heterogeneous Mixture and Homogeneous Mixture

12. What are the characteristics of Heterogeneous mixture?

A: You can usually see the different parts and they ca be easily separated out
13. What are the characteristics of Homogeneous mixture?
A: They are so evenly mixed that you cant see the different parts, and its difficult
to separate the parts

14. Mention some process to separate the mixtures

A: Distillation, evaporation, filtration, and magnetic attraction

15. What is weight?

A: Its a measure of the force of gravity on you or the objects in the world

16. What is the system the scientists use to measure matter?

A: International System of Units

17. What is volume?

A: All mater has mass and take up space, the amount of space the matter
occupies is called volume

18. What is density?

A: Is a measure of a material in a given volume

19. What happens during a matter change?

A: Alters the form or appearance of matter but does not turn any substance in
the matter into a different substance

20. What does Law of conservation of mass talks about?

A: The fact that matter is not created or destroyed in any chemical or physical
change

21. What is temperature?

A: Is a measure of how hot or cold something is

22. What is thermal energy?

A: Is the total energy of the motion of all of the particles in an object

23. What happens during endothermic change?

A: Is a change where energy is absorbed

24. What happens during exothermic change?

A: is a change where energy is released

25. What is chemical energy?

A: Is the energy stored in the chemical bonds between atoms
26. What are the states of matter?
A: Liquid, solid and gas

27. What are the conditions the matter must have to be

solid?
A: Must have definite shape and volume

28. What are the conditions the matter must have to be

liquid?
A: has a definite volume but no shape on its own

29. When a matter is in gas state?

A: When it doesnt have neither definite shape or volume

30. What is pressure?

A: Is the force of its outward push divided by the area of the walls of the
container

31. What is melting?

A: Is the process where a solid matter changes to liquid, this is called the melting
point

32. What is freezing?

A: Is the change of matter from liquid to solid

33. What is vaporization?

A: The change of matter from liquid to gas

34. What is sublimation?

A: is when the particles of a solid do not pass through the liquid state as they
form a gas

35. What is Atom?

A: is the smallest particle that still can be considered an element

36. What are electrons?

A: are negatively charged particles

37. What is nucleus?

A: is positive charge that is packed within a small region in its center

38. What are protons?

A: are positive charged particles in and atom
39. What is atomic mass?
A: is the average mass of all the isotopes of that element

40. What is a periodic table?

A: is an arrangement of elements showing the repeating pattern of their
properties

41. What are chemical symbol?

A: they contain either one or two letters are abbreviation of the elements name
in English and other have symbols from Latin names

42. How is divided the periodic table?

A: metals, non-metals and metalloids
