Presentation Skills

A presentation is the process of presenting a topic to an audiance. Is it tipically a

demonstration, lecture, speech meant to inform, or persuade the audience. Usually we can use
mirosoft power point, prezi, etc when we presentation to the audience. A success presentation
certainly is not just speech launched in general direction of the audience with take it or leave
it attitude. It follows that when we are preparing presentation we should always have need
and interest of our audience at the forefront of our mind. Our presentation is for audience. We
regard a presentation as a kind of gift from presenter to audience, not something that is
dumped in front of them, like milk left on a doorstep.

When a presentation is taking place there will always be some kind of relationship
between presenter an audience. In a good presentation there will usually be rapport between
presenter and audience, and an energy that the presenter and audience will share. This energy
may take many forms, from shared good humour, even laughter, to the kind of silence and
focus in which you could hear the proverbial pin drop. We can think of this energy as filling
the space between presenter and audience. We must prepare before give information to the
audience. Preparing a presentation is very important part of making a successful presentation,
if you want your presentation success and the audience very like your presentation, you must
prepare it very well. There are eight stages to preparing a presentation.

1. Objectives
Why are you giving this talk?
Who will you be talking to?
How much do they (the audience) know about the subject already?
What effect do you want your presentation to have?
2. Limitations
How long have you got?
Do you have to follow a certain format?
Where will you be giving your presentation?
Can you change the room around to suit your preferences?
You will need to concentrate on one specifict aspect of your topic.
3. Main points
Decide on your main points : no more than three points in a 10-minute talk.
Making an outline is the way to show the main points of your presentation. After
that, you can formulating a script based on your outline.
4. Beginning
Youll need to get the audiences attention, so introduce yourself.
Check that they can see and hear you all right.
Tell them what your topic is.
Tell them how youll discuss it :
How long is your presentation going to be?
How many parts are there?
Will you take questions as you proceed?
Will you invite discussion at the end?
5. Middle
Prepare your talk so you lead the audience through your main points in a logical
and interesting fashion. It helps if you put variety in the ways you present your
case.
Where they are appropiate, you could plan to use :
Examples, anecdotes and case histories
Charts and graphs
Handouts given out at the start, in the middle, or the end of the
presentation
Slides, Video clips, or Objects which people can pass round
6. End
Summarise the main points of your presentation and make your conclusions. If
possible leave the audience a parting shot stimulate their thoughts.
7. And then
When you have written your presentation, look it over carefully, from the
viewpoinnt of :
Your intended audience
Does it meet the objective?
Is the structure as logical as can be?
Is it too long?
Then revise the presentation.
8. Visuals
Prepare your visuals (Power Point slides, Overhead projector foils, etc) Make
sure they are clear, and that any text is big enough. In business, giving an effective
presentation usually requires employing visual aids. Visual aids can reinforce the
key consepts in the presentation. Visual aids can support your presentation to gain
audience attention. People depend on visual aids to enhance the meaning of
words. Visual aids also can use to clarify meaning. Although visual aids are
helpful in holding the audiences attention, they are used primarily to clarify or
enhance the meaning of a point in the presentation.

After prepared a presentation, we will give our presentation to the audience. But
before it, there are four thing to remember during our presentation.

a. Presence
As we get up to give our presentation, make a conscious effort to stand all, take a
deep breath and look as if we enjoy being there.
b. Voice
When we give a presentation to the audience, we must speak clearly, speak slowly,
remember to breath deeply and slowly and speak loudly enought so everyone can
hear. If we are not sure they can hear clearly, as if they can.
c. Move
We allowed to move as we give our presentation. It can help add variety and interest
to come to the front of podium to deliver a telling point. Try to avoid hiding behind
the lectern.
d. Eye contact
Make a contact with people in our audience in a friendly way. People respond much
better when they think we talking to them and not just reading our script. In small
room, try to make eye contact with each person in the audience but if we will
presentation in large room, make eye contact with different group in the audience.

There are seven step process which applies to any kind of presentation :

a. Decide what you want to achieve

b. Decide whether a formal presentation is the best way to achieve this
objective.
c. If you decide to go ahead with the presentation, decide what form it should
take.
d. Pepare a script
e. Design and prepare your visual aids and handouts.
f. Rehearse.
g. Do it!

So that, before we start to presentation we must prepare it very well, when we give
presentation to audience we should remember four thing and seven steps process which
applies during presentation, our presentation is for audience, and we regard a presentation as
a kind of gift from presenter to audience.
