our church and community. It showcases new events that may not be
present in our monthly newsletter. The Weekly News is also posted
on our website: www.esumc.net along with other news and events.
If you want your activity to be included, please make your
submissions to the church office before 10 a.m. on Tuesdays.

Welcome Visitors!
If this is your first time worshiping with us, we welcome
you. As a church we are committed to Love Jesus Christ
and to Share His Love. We offer three services: 8:30 and
11 a.m. are traditional, and 9:45 a.m. is contemporary.
~ Our Welcome Center is located in Oberholtzer Hall, the room next
to the sanctuary. Brochures on all our ministries are available there.
~ Our Holy Grounds Café is a place for light refreshments and coffee
from 8:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. each Sunday in our Fellowship Hall. The
café provides worshipers with an informal opportunity for fellowship.
~ Our Infant and Toddler Nurseries are available every Sunday from
8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. They are located on the lower level of the church
and are staffed with our full-time, professional attendants and parent
volunteers.
~ Children’s Church for ages four through third grade is offered at the
11 a.m. service and is guided by a parent volunteer. Children will be
dismissed after the Children’s Message. Please pick up your children
in the lower level of the church following worship.

End of Summer Celebration
Sunday, September 12 from 12:30 - 3 p.m.
This is an opportunity to share the love of Christ with our community
and welcome Pastor and Mrs. Kimes home. There are plenty of
opportunities to serve! Mark your calendar today and invite a friend
to join you for food, music and games for all ages!
Saturday Night Fellowship is August 21 from 6-7:30 p.m in the
Fellowship Hall. The theme is One-pot-wonders. Bring a friend and
your favorite one dish meal to share with others.
The Davis Class has postponed their quilting meeting until Sunday,

Adult Co-ed Recreational Basketball meets every Monday at 8 p.m.

Opportunities for Service and Outreach to Our Community and World
Mission Sunday - August 29. Our guest speaker is a representative
from Habitat for Humanity. Come hear how they are changing lives
in our community and how as a church we can support this ministry.

 Summer Discipleship Programs
New Book Club Kickoff - Our first book selection will be Ten Dumb
Things Smart Christians Believe by Larry Osborne. We will be hosting
two book discussion formats. Our on-site book discussion group will
take place on Sunday, September 19, at 6:30 p.m.. Our Online Book
Discussion Blog will be accessible through our website,
www.esumc.net. If you have not yet placed an order for your book,
contact Pastor LaBar as soon as possible. Books will be available for
distribution next week. We will be offering other feature books on
various Christian topics during the year. For information on this

Final Two Weeks !
Continuing today is our summer video-based discipleship series. The
last two programs will take place Sunday mornings at 9:45 a.m. and
11:00 a.m., in the back section of Fellowship Hall.
Today's Topic: The Beautiful Fight with Gary Thomas.
Believe it or not, there is a spiritual purpose to living in a physical
body! Gary Thomas explains true Christian transformation and what
it means to become a "God Oasis" in the world. Take an inspirational
look at how faith in Christ radically alters the way we see, feel, think,
hear, and speak.
Next Week, August 22 is our final featured program Growing
Spiritually as a Couple with Jim Burns. For a majority of couples,
spiritual intimacy is perhaps the least developed area of their married
life. In this program, Dr. Jim Burns will explore the major obstacles that
stand in the way of growing together spiritually: busyness, low-level
anger, lack of forgiveness, lack of respect, spiritual warfare. Get the
tools you need to strengthen the most important part of your marriage!

Opportunities for Congregational Care and Service to the Church

God calls all members of our church to identify their
spiritual gifts and utilize them to glorify Him through
service in ministry. Is God calling you to step out in faith to learn how
to provide one-on-one Christian support to those who are struggling
through the trials of life? A training class for new Stephen Ministers will
begin September 8. Today is the last day a representative from Stephen
Ministry will be available in Fellowship Hall to answer your questions.
Stop by and look through the training manuals and pick up an
application. All applications must be completed and returned to Peggy
Strack Monday, August 16.
Helping Children & Teens Cope with Grief, a FREE conference with
internationally known author, educator, and grief counselor Dr. Alan D.
Wolfelt is Monday, October 18 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at DeSales
University, Allentown. Registration is required! For information, see
the Congregational Care Bulletin Board in Oberholtzer Hall.
An Electric Lift Recliner is needed. If you have one to donate or sell
at a reasonable cost, call 223-0259 after 4 p.m.
PMC Medical Explorers, a program that partners young people interest
ed in working in the medical field with professionals in that field is
hosting an Open House Wednesday, September 22 from 5-7 p.m. at the

Health Care Equipment is available to anyone who can use it! If you
or someone you know is in need of an adult potty chair, walker,
crutches, cane, tub grab bar, adult diapers, daily pill box, grabber for
items out of reach, or a medi-cap remover, please call Peggy at
421-3280, ext. 23.

Children’s Ministry Nursery - Sixth Grade
Mission Project Report from SonQuest Rainforest - Our VBS students
raised $820.99 for Habitat for Humanity. We will continue our support
for Habitat with a Sunday School mission project during the month of
September.
Upcoming Family Ministry Event - Willy Wonka Jr. at Shawnee
Playhouse - Saturday, August 21. Showtime is 10 a.m. All seats

Praise Dance for Youth. This group is for ages 9 and up and meets
every Friday from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. For

Combined Jr. & Sr. High Sunday School will be held at 11 a.m.

• Sunday School is from 11a.m.-12 p.m. We meet in the
Fellowship Hall for Just Press Play.
• Bible Study meets every Tuesday night in the Youth Room
"tank" from 7-8 p.m.
• Fellowship Event/ Service Project: Saturday, August 21 at
Pocono Plateau. We will work on a service project with them for
the first hour-and-a-half and then enjoy their boating and trails
the next two hours. Remember to bring a snack and drink for
yourself.

How to Ring Chimes and Bells - Classes for beginners continue today
and next Sunday at 9-9:40 a.m. in the Bell Room. Interested adults,
teens, and children in at least 3rd grade will be shown basic skills on how
to play and read music. Previous music experience is helpful but not
necessary. Persons may attend any or all of the sessions. No obligation
