When did you start playing guitar?

-I was 11 years old....arround 1971....I learned watching the bands i liked and also a friend from the
barrio gave me some tips....the more i learned the more i enjoyed playing the guitar.

What made you decide to play the guitar (be a musician)?

- I always liked it....music and its beautiful sounds are in my blood...it was passion what made
me dedicae my time to guitar and music...

Why cumbia?

- I discovered cumbia listening to Enrique Delgado y Los Destellos....I thought it was a really
good style!

How did you get to play with Los Sanders and los Blue Kings?

First I started playing the timbaleta with the bands from my barrio....then, little by little, i started
playing the guitar and in the year 1973 me and some friend got together and formed Los Blue Kings
de aa....we recorded our first 45rpm.....side A had El rey loco and side B La pildorita ....both
tracks were instrumental, with a very guarachero rythm that was very characteristic for the bands
that came from the carretera central...and thats how the ritmo carretero was formed...

I was a year and a half with Los Blue Kings and then i decided to form my own band becauseLos
Blue Kings had another owner....so i formed Costa Azul de aa and we recorded three 45rpms
that included the following tracks: Daniel el Travieso, La Tanga Carioca, El Prncipe Azul, Verano Azul,
Nieve Blanca and Caminando por la Costa.....

In 1975 Fernando Arias called me and asked me to be part of Los Sanders.... we added vocals and
we played the balada cumbia and cumbia beat styles....this band recorded many tracks that i
composed....

Why did you formed Los Jharis??

I stopped playing with Los Sanders in 1980 and in 1981 i was working with other bands, recording
and playing concerts....in April 1982 i decided to test my luck as an owner and director of a new
band...this band was Los Jharis de aa , which means Los Hombres de aa in the Andahuaylas
quechua dialect.....it was not easy in the beggining....we recorded our first 45rpm that included
Sepult mis Ilusiones and Lo mo y lo tuyo.... we have been playing and recording since then ....

Where is your family from?

My family is from Andahuaylas province in Apurimac...

What is Cumbia-Beat?

Is a very lively rythm (style).....the first measures (bars) are rock and then it fuses with cumbia.....i
first tried it with Los Sanders and it was very well accepted by the public..
Please tell me about your influences....

I have many influences....as i mentioned before I started listening to cumbia because of Los
Destellos....that is one of my big influences...other ones are: Los Corraleros del Majagual (Colombia),
La Orquesta de Willie Coln (Salsa), Los Compares de Cuba, Los Guaracheros del Oriente, Los
Girasoles, Pedro Miguel y sus Maracaibos, Los Belkings, Los Yorks, Los Shains, Los Silverstones, Los
Doltons, Los Angeles Negros, Grupo Katunga (Argentina), Santana, Los Rolling Stones, Los Angeles de
Espaa and the Huayno from my hometown....

How did you meet Teodoro Arellano and Pascualillo?

I know Teodoro Arellano from Morn barrio in aa arround 1973.... he was my fan when i played
in Los Blue Kings... Teodoro was not in the music scene yet...he went to my house to visit and
there he learned about music and in 1975 i gave him the chance to record with Los Sanders ... we
recorded the song Si ya te vas....

I know Pascualillo because he lived in Huascata, aa....we got introduced by some friends in
common ...he was not a singer yet but he had the spark so i invited to record with Los
Sanders....we recorded the song Lloras por mi querer...

Now both singers have followed their own paths and have their own bands....I leave a message for
them:

The cow doesnt remember when she was calf
