Mr. Mark Weston, who is 39 years old, suffers from early onset Parkinsons disease, stage

II, and is under the care of neurological physicians. He was prescribed a dopamine agonists

medication ropinirole, brand-name Requip.

He was unaware that there exists a link between the use of Requip and problemetic

impulse-control behavior in Parkinsons disease. A common result in individuals taking Requip is

that a high percentage of patients may develop an obsessive-compulsive behavior (OCD). A

common OCD behavior in patients taking Requip is compulsive shopping or overspending.

And Mr. Weston, his family and the Austin Rodeo suffered the negative consequences of

taking Mr. Weston taking Requip, as he has suffered serious financial losses for both him and the

Austin Rodeo by engaging in uncontrollable compulsive spending. Previous to the medication, he

had never experienced any issues with handling of money, either his or his clients. When his

physician became aware of Mr. Westons issues with OCD and Requip, she immediately stopped

the medication and proceeded with other medications. Fortunately for Mr. Weston, once the drug

is discontinued, the compulsive behaviors is eliminated.

Mr. Weston is a CPA, who has no criminal history related to theft or misappropriation of

funds, and earned a high professional reputation. He is married and a father of four. He has

accepted full responsibility for his actions, agreed to a civil judgement and has sought to make

amends to the Austin Rodeo by returning all property in his possession, including cash. He has
returned over a quarter of a million dollars to the Austin Rodeo and looks forward to making the

Austin Rodeo and their insurance company whole.

With Mr. Westons knowledge of accounting, especially forensic accounting, he could

have very easily hidden the theft of funds. Yet, all he did was in the open that any first year

accountant could have easily discovered. Again, this is an example that Mr. Westons actions

were the result of the medication Requip, not an intention act on his part. Unfortunately, this is a

prime example of modern medicine at times treating an aliment that may result in unintended

serious consequences and results on the human mind and body.
