Proportional stratified random sampling, an example

How to estimate the population mean, the population total and

the bound, B, on the error of estimation for a population with
10,000 units divided into 4 strata.

The estimates are based on a sample of 1.000 units that was

proportional allocated to the strata.

Stratum Ni ni Ni /N Yi Ni /N* Y i
1 5,000 500 0.5 10.5 5.25
2 2,000 200 0.2 19.5 3.90

4 1,000 100 0.1 21.3 2.13
 10,000 1,000 1 15.3

The estimate of the population mean is
