With the support of the
Construction Industry Council, the
HKGBC will soon be established. The
Council will comprise representatives
of the construction industry and
professional sectors. It will help raise
public awareness of green building
and facilitate exchange and co-
operation between HK and the rest

There are four As that I expect the
HKGBC to do for HK. First is
Advocacy. . So the HKGBC
needs to be a very strong advocate
and champion for promoting green
building in HK, for transforming
market practices, as well as for
suggesting or even pressurising us
for policy changes

A more important role
Now that the HKGBC has become a public body, it is
well posed to add much value to the continuous
advocacy for green building movement with more
effective corporate governance and an
institutionalised regulatory framework.

Private building projects registered under


BEAM Plus are entitled to GFA concessions for
their green features. ... We will start a
consultancy next year to further strengthen
the effectiveness of this incentive scheme.

(Eg 1) The Assessors Employer is a Developer which


is related to the project under assessment.

(Eg 2) The Assessors Employer is a Consultant which


is participating in the project under assessment
e.g. it is the architectural, structural, BS or other consultant.

(Eg 3) The Assessors Employer is a Contractor which


is participating in the project under assessment.

Paid Assessors: 1 time per year

Volunteers: 2 times per year

Important notes for the written exam

1. Passing is per aspect (must pass General paper)

2. Passing mark is 75, passing rate around 0.5

3. You need to be a relevant practitioner

4. Choose the right aspects, e.g. Sr -> SA, MA

5. Keep abreast of Technical Circulars & FAQs

What will be tested at the oral exam ?

1. You will be given back your answer script

2. A panel of examiners will ask questions based


on your answers

3. Please elaborate, then you have a chance to


perfect your answer -> and marks adjusted

4. So, after the written exam, please rethink


your answers & jot down possible refinement

Possible reasons of failures
1. Not a practitioner in the field

2. Not attend to details (the case & the manual)

3. Over subjective, not based on manual

4. Based on manual but forget circulars/FAQs

5. Poor ability in communication (written + oral)

1. Be available

2. Good understander (reading comprehension)

3. Good questioner (ask precise questions)

4. Objective (can overcome personal bias)

5. Good communicator (report + presentation)
