1911 Survey Map

1911 survey map, used by BCC to identify pre-1911 buildings and built
areas.
Hashed areas denote occupied sections, i.e. well-developed sections
in contrast to isolated tenements.
The area between Cleveland (Lytton) Road and Laidlaw Parade is
marked as occupied, indicating that development pre-dates 1911.

Buildings with a potential pre-1911 construction date

15/33
1/12/RP11010 Rushton

16/33
1/12/RP11010 Rushton Cont.

There is some confusion in the PO directories as to where Laidlaw Pde intersected Lytton Road see below directories from 1909, 1911 and 1915. Despite the 1895 survey
plan, it appears Scanlan St was originally referred to as Laidlaw St. Thus Rushton has been reported as being first on the right side of Laidlaw Pde, then between two
separate entrances and finally on the left side. Based on the PO Directory information, the current entry point to Laidlaw Pde was added around 1910, and the previous
entry street re-named Scanlan St.

First record of Rushton is in 1895 electoral roll, which is validated by PO directory. Many more records can be found over subsequent years.
Very high likelihood of a pre-1911 construction date, probably ca 1895.

This is likely a pyramid-roof cottage of late colonial style with half-timbered gable and cantilevered hood added in 1920s/30s, and veranda built-in.
On balance a high likelihood of pre-1911 construction, however closer inspection is required.
