Assumptions

- As there is no specific floor plan provided in the project specification, our team is taking
up Vertical view of the building network design rather than longitudinal one which is
more floor plan specific. Our assignment is less on cabling & arrangement but more on
protocols, standards and hardware.
- Our team is free to make realistic assumptions where ever the information from client is
limited to build a network

 WAN backup

Above scenario enumerates WAN BACKUP

Two backup links:

- Frame Relay

Frame relay is the primary WAN connection.

- DSL

DSL is used as back up link that can be activated automatically when

primary link is down or when the traffic load is heavy.

1. VLAN(IEEE 802.1Q)
Main LAN is divided into 3 VLAN’S:
- Accounts
- Admin
- Default/ All Users

The Network Configuration in main office 3rd floor that depicts that whole network is
divided into 3 VLAN’s one for General/ Default users, one for Administration & one for
Accounts department.

22 | P a g e
Asia Pacific University of Innovation and Technology
Net Bazaar Remote Access Networks

2. Standard Ethernet(IEEE 802.3)

Standard Ethernet is used in the back up lines of the whole network, whenever a line is
down before it is corrected back up lines that run on standard Ethernet will be triggered
and they can operate up to 100 MBPS

3. Fast Ethernet (IEEE 802.3u)

All the main lines in the network are built upon the Fast Ethernet and they can work up to
100 KBPS

The adjoining figure shows the Back

up and the Main lines.

Back up lines are the one with orange

display and the one with green
display are Main lines

In this network setup Back up lines

work with Fast Ethernet and Back Up
lines work with Standard Ethernet

23 | P a g e

4. Wireless LAN(IEEE 802.11g)

Fig 1.2 shows the ground floor in remote LAN that is built on WLAN standards with
Linksys devices

5. Frame Relay

Frame Relay is a WAN standard that is most famous from 80’s. In this design Frame relay is the
WAN design that we selected for connecting the remote offices. A leased line with a global IP

24 | P a g e
Asia Pacific University of Innovation and Technology
Net Bazaar Remote Access Networks

address will be got on a lease from BSNL.. Frame relay can work at very great speed and gives a
greater security as it is on a leased line.

- Leased lines
- Amazingly fast
- Security is high
- Can with stand greater data over load.

6. DSL

DSL as used as backup line for WAN it will be activated when:

 Traffic exceeds main link load capacity
 Whenever main line is down backup acts as WAN link

25 | P a g e
Asia Pacific University of Innovation and Technology
Net Bazaar Remote Access Networks

7. Virtual Private Network

Even though VPN is not a full WAN standard it will be useful for the organizations in
many ways. Recently from many years VPN is becoming the de facto standard for the
organizations to connect to remote offices In contrast to the Frame Relay it is cheap and
is too fast but the down side of the VPN is that it can’t operate when it has heavy duty
data transfer.
- In VPN no leased line is needed; it just work on the internet
- Setup costs are strikingly low
- Amazing performance
- Relatively less security

8. Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol

- EIGRP is the most widely used routing protocol
- It is not proprietary like OSPF by Cisco
- Network convergence is too fast
- Considered as the state of art routing protocol

EIGRP Packets all through the network in simulated network of Net Bazaar

27 | P a g e
Asia Pacific University of Innovation and Technology

9. Net bazaar Intranet

As part of the network design we have developed an Intranet and extranet for the Net bazaar.

- Main server is located in 2nd floor of HQ

- Routed through EIGRP
- HTTPS & HTTP support provided

Fig shows Sample web page from Net bazaar’s simulated Intranet on Packet Tracer

10. Net Bazaar Network – Security Measures

 AAA Servers

Net bazaar network is provided with AAA servers that can Authenticate Authorize Account the
users on the network

AAA has two protocols:

- TACACS+
- RADIUS

Radius server is proposed at the main office of Net bazaar that helps the network admin to
authenticate and authorize the user effectively

29 | P a g e
Asia Pacific University of Innovation and Technology
Net Bazaar Remote Access Networks

 Wireless Encryption Protocol(WEP)

WEP is the encryption protocol that is to be used on the wireless routers of net bazaar to
protect it from unauthorized access/ intruders.

Category 5 cable is a twisted pair high signal integrity cable type often referred to
as Cat5 or Cat-5. Most cables are unshielded, relying on the twisted pair design for noise
rejection, and some are shielded. Category 5 has been superseded by the Category
5e specification structured cabling for computer networks such as Ethernet, and is also
used to carry many other signals such as basic voice services, token ring, and ATM (at up
to 155 Mbits, over short distances).

Conclusion & Limitations

42 | P a g e
Asia Pacific University of Innovation and Technology
Net Bazaar Remote Access Networks

Conclusion
The network design by our consultancy for Net Bazaar consists of robust WAN technologies and
backup plans and every at most care is taken regarding security measure like WEP for WI-FI
security AAA servers for authentication ,authorization and accounting Of network resources

With all the measures taken in designing the above network can be concluded as:

Robust: with a strong back plan

Scalable: as hardware is proposed keeping the growing business in mind

Secure: as the entire network resources are protected,

Available: with a good back up and disaster recovery network and data will be available any
time even under any chaos.

Limitations
We confined the project scope till network layer and a very little on physical layer (cabling…).
So, this assignment can’t guide anyone who is concerned with physical level design of networks.
