Technology Grant Proposal Brief

Galloway Elementary wants to foster critical thinking, collaboration,

communication, and creativity skills in 4th Grade students by providing 1:1 access to iPads
for the six classrooms (40 additional units) that will allow students to engage in problem
solving real world situations in collaborative settings using Google Apps like Classroom,
Slides, Docs, because a technology integrated curriculum will lead to a more differentiated,
self-paced and engaging instruction, it will also increase research, collaboration
opportunities, give students diversified options to show, demonstrate, and apply their
knowledge in a variety of formats, as a result student achievement will grow and the
improvement will reflect in their literacy standardized scores.

Galloway Elementary believes that students need to exercise critical thinking,

collaboration, and communication skills in real problem solving situations. Galloway
Elementary recognizes a need to strengthen literacy and writing campus wide in order to
counteract a tendency shown by the reading and writing standardized state test scores in
the last few years. Integrating iPad technology into the everyday classroom will allow for a
more differentiated and targeted instruction. It will also appeal to different learning styles,
allowing students to deepen their thinking through inquiries, applications, and creative
project based lessons; which will impact the students performance.

Also, considering that Galloway Elementary is a Title 1 campus, and more than 80%
of the student population qualifies, as economically disadvantaged, the opportunities
provided by school might be the only chances for technology interaction, which are
essential to develop 21st Century Digital Literacy Skills.

Currently, Fourth Grade shares a 21-iPad cart between six classrooms. This rotation
allows teachers to use Google Classroom, Google Apps and other iPad-based technology
once every six days. Students respond very well to these applications performing several
tasks. They use it to work with iStation, Think Through Math, Pearson Texas, to post
reading responses through blog posts, Thinglinks, etc. Teacher and students surveys show
great levels of satisfaction and engagement.

Galloway Elementary wants to increase the ratio of iPads to 1:1 for every student in
Fourth Grade with a purchase of 100 iPads at a cost of $379.00 each, including all needed
Apps and software. The District Technology Facilitator and the Media Specialist on campus
will be leading the implementation and supervising the successful integration of this
equipment into the curriculum, by providing assistance, staff development opportunities,
planning and coordinating with the Fourth Grade team.
