 ISSUE: Failure to connect to Excel or Access
On a 64-bit system, you may receive one of the following errors
when trying to connect to an Access or Excel file:
External component has thrown an exception
Failed to Connect
Failed to create the data source file: XXXXX
Test connection failed because of an error

This happens when a system has not yet been configured for
ODBC!

What do ESRI geodatabase files look like?

.MDB or .GDB extension

Requirements to connect:
32-bit AutoCAD Map (or Civil) 3D 2012 or newer
ESRI ArcEngine Runtime license

If your system is 64-bit:

Set up a 32-bit virtual machine

1. Obtain needed DLL files from ESRI:

FROM SERVER PATH: C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcSDE\sqlexe\bin

2. Place these DLL files into Autodesk location on client machine:

Issue: When Adding data to Map, you see:

"Source coordinate system not found" (raster)

"All features failed to transform to the target
coordinate system (vector)

Often seen when the drawing has a State Plane

coordinate system assigned.

Solution: Override the data source coordinate

system!

enabled!

Whats missing in non-Map (or non-Civil) versions of AutoCAD:

projected coordinate systems only (no geographic or arbitrary)
no geodetic Transformations
no ability to create a custom coordinate system
