USEFUL INFORMATION for AY16/17 Sem 1

a) Online Degree Requirement Check (DRC)

Students are strongly encouraged to access the Online Degree Requirement Check (DRC) at
https://www.eng9.nus.edu.sg/degree/login.html to track the fulfillment of their degree requirements.

b) Workload Policy

The minimum number of modular credits per semester to be read by students are set as 18 MCs,
except for the following semesters where students could read fewer modular credits:

(a) final semester;

(b) semester in which students are undergoing industrial attachment or doing the final year project.

c) University Level Requirements (General Education-GE) & Unrestricted Electives (UEM)

Student will have to read a module from each of the followings pillars namely, Human Culture (GEH),
Asking Questions (GEQ), Quantitative Reasoning (GER), Singapore Studies (GES), Thinking &
Expression (GET) to fulfill GE requirement.

Students are strongly encouraged to fulfill the GE requirements within the first two years of their
candidature. As such, all new GE modules will be at Level 1000 with no pre-requisite & preclusions
so that new students can enroll for these modules early in their course of study.

The Asking Questions pillar will be launched with effect AY16/17 Semester 2. The module that
RVRC residents (admitted AY1617 onwards) will read in fulfillment of the Asking Questions pillar is
under review and RVRC residents are to approach RVRC on the required module.

Students who read a module coded as GEH/GEQ/GER/GES/GET to fulfill requirements for their
Major/Minor programmes are not allowed to count these modules towards fulfilling both the GE and
the Major/Minor requirements, i.e., no double counting is allowed.
For example, if they had taken a GEH module for their Major/Minor programme, they have to take
another GEH module to fulfill the Human Cultures pillar of the GE requirement.

Students are advised to plan the use of the UEM modules carefully, which can be used
simultaneously to satisfy the requirements of a number of exciting programmes such as the FoE
Enhancement, Double-degree, Double-Major and Minor programmes.
