Dear Parents,

Please note we are marking the upcoming week as Literary week in Junior
School. The main aim of the week is fostering love for literature and infuse
the learners with appreciation, understanding and love for the language.
Above all, developing the habit of reading- reading for pleasure.
Literary week is an important event in the schools annual calendar. It has
delighted our students every year and has had a profound impact in
creating an interest and developing a rich reading experience of books.
A number of learning engagements will be conducted at various levels. We
already had a kickstart this week with Grade 5 interacting with the author
and educator, Terry O Brien and learning the nuances of language.
Book Fair
As part of the book week, we have Book fair from 11th to 13th September
2017. On day 1 students will browse through the books and select what
they would like to buy in consultation with their class teacher, on 2nd and 3rd
day they will start purchasing the books. The students will be allowed
maximum upto Rs. 1000/-. The boarders are permitted to use vouchers
which will be debited to their account.
Hindi Diwas
14th September is marked as Hindi diwas in the country and we will be
doing the same in the school. There will be small assembly showcasing the
importance of our National Language and appreciation of the same.
Students from grade 2 onwards will be taking part in reciting poems
Monday and Tuesday within their classrooms.
DEAR Time (Drop Everything and read)
Learners will have DEAR time everyday during this week.
Grade 2
Musical Book Game: Learners of Grade 2 will play Musical Books Game
during the week. They will have to bring any book from home which can be
further exchanged with their peers for this activity.
Grade 3
Twist in the Tale : Learners will choose characters, settings and plots of
different stories (old tales like Cinderella etc.) from a bag and then create a
new stories in their respective groups .They will then present their story using
their communication skills .Either through writing or drama.
Guest Story Session: Story Narration by Mrs.Harsha Paliwal a regular Story
Teller with the Delhi Public Library
Grade 4
Character Parade: Learners of grade will choose a favourite characters from
any story read by them ( not a movie character). They will speak and dress up
as their chosen character. They will describe the character and speak a few
dialogues of the character from the story.
We would appreciate if you could assist your child, however, avoid buying/
renting any dress or prop. Lets give them the opportunity to showcase their
talents and creativity.
Grade 5
Learners of grade 5 will study different genres of literature. On the final day
will have a book tasting event which will include books from all the
genres. Book Tastings are a wonderful way to get students engaged in
reading and familiarising them with a wide variety of genres. As an extra
bonus, they get to practice Read to Self and find good fit books. At the end of
the tasting, they all end up with a list of books that they can't wait to read.
Book Explorer/ Book Traveller (Year Long) : Each time a student reads a
book that relates in some way to a state or country, he/she may color that
state or country on the given world map. The relationship may be based on
the following: (1) the author was born there; (2) the setting for the book is
there; (3) the story began there; (4) it is a book telling about the state or
country.
