PERSONAL THEORY OF COUNSELING

Basic Assumptions about Human Kind

Human beings are meandering and curios organisms. Our mind seeks to find a way out
the painful confusion and fearful turmoil that tears us part to many misfortunes. We seek for
welcoming place to find refuge. In the past, we would have resorted to options involving the
wisdom of shamans, soothsayers, seers and psychics and offer to burn animals, drink blood or
sought counsel from our religious affiliations. These we all do to discover and rediscover
ourselves, as if not into being, the champions and conquerors in our life battles. In the
contemporaneous existent where technology and information is accessible, there are two main
sources that we generally trust to provide the guiding principles- churches in which where we
establish our faith with its beliefs and practices, and gradually, the science of psychology. In
general, human kind is viewed as incisive for an ultimate idyllic personality which is manifested
by the idea of being complete, whole or wholeness. Human have the capacity to recreate and
transform themselves beyond their meagre self or ego which is a very narrow depiction of their
veracity as a person.

Basic Assumptions about Mental Illness

Traditionally, psychology has tracked the dark side of man, his pathologies,
abnormalities, deviations and deprivations. On one part, this theory gives a new shade in
understanding illness and mental health. Humans are distressed with different types of
pathologies when they fail to perceive and identify themselves beyond a simple state of mental
problems to be solved or emotional preoccupation to be rid of, being physiological ailments to be
fought, or an existential torment by a disease. When we experience any of these troubles and
lengths, the more conventional caregiving approaches tend to focus on specialized but limited
perspectives such as the alarming symptoms, the bacteria and viruses to be eliminated at all
costs. Caustically, it often occurs that when the more we try to overcome and fight our
difficulties, the more they become opposing to us. Anchored to spiritual and psychological
blossoming, diseases comes up when we fail to relink with spiritual nature.

Ideas on Purpose of Counseling

As a universal process for learning, healing and growth, the main purpose and goal of
counselling in this personal theory is to rekindle with our strengths and emerge as a beautiful
swan. This also challenges us to reconsider the myths and traditions we inhabitate: our
costumary beliefs about what and who we are, and how we can sensibly help and mend ourselves
and others. It encourages us to accept our passions and emotions. It also visualize again and root
our aspirations aggrieved hearts, renew the vigor and strengths of our bodies and let go our
minds from dissent and horrors to acceptance and inner strengths. Recognizing the strength and
great impact of the spiritual areana in our lives, it parallels our spirit with the greater and
heavenly purpose for which we were assigned to. Lastly, it covers a way us perceiving that we
are all exceptional beings living in space and time that are one way or another connected to each
other.

Explanation on TOP

This held view is heavily influenced by both Western and Eastern psychology. Asian
psychotherapy refers to the different approaches to healing, psychotherapy, and counseling as
taught in the ancient schools of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Zen, Sufism, the Japanese therapies
and Naikan therapy. Asian psychotherapy also include the Filipino ways of coping and soothing
aches, such as contemporary indigenous healing and shamanism, that help many Filipinos meet
their needs for healing and for cures from painful conditions.

Transpersonal psychology, meanwhile, is an emerging field in Western psychology that

uses a body-mind-spirit model of human psyche. As a science that studies reality of people, it
acknowledged the divine essence of human beings. It recognizes the variety of experiences
usually regarded as random or chance, superstitious or mythic and at times even dangerous and
pathological. It accepts as a legitimate focus of study such events as psychic phenomena,
including extrasensory perceptions, near-death experiences, synchronicity, spontaneous cure or
healing and spiritual emergencies that may not be abnormal behaviors.

Role as a Counsellor

The major role of the counsellor is to provide and facilitate ways to fully realize the
potential of a person by making him distinguish and realize himself self-better. Through
experiencing the self genuinely, then healing, progress and growth are more likely to happen. As
a counsellor, being responsible to setting basic parameters by promoting more conscious self-
responsibility for learning, growing and healing. Every client is invited to be fully present in the
sessions, thus, they nurture the reward of being present to oneself but also to other people too..
Since this method is learning to adjust to oneself and others, participants have to go through
awareness-enhancing exercises. Possible questions that might come up with the sessions
includes; What makes you happy? What makes you feel alive What keeps you from
experiencing a pleasurable way of living?

Another salient task of the counsellor is to facilitate intensifying exercises through

opening sacred ground for restful and creative quite and peace; heightening curiosity, openness
and flexibility in perception; reflecting on and drawing ones inner self. Likewise, clients should
be processed after the aforesaid practices by stirring their profound self through guided affective
imagery, age regression, and age development exercises.

Counsellors lay down options for their client to move on from routinely limited dreams.
They act as landscaper of consciousness with abiding ties from the landscape of eternity.
Furthermore, they promote creative human nurturance which is manifested in enhanced
autonomy, intimacy, and spirituality.
