1. Patient Body Temperature Remote Monitoring Using Internet

ABSTRACT

For this real-time scenario we take one digital temperature sensor, interfaced
to a microcontroller of 8051 series to send live data to a remote location
anywhere in the world over internet.

The data is directly sent through a Wi-Fi module interfaced to the

microcontroller under TCP IP protocol to a dedicated IP on the cloud via
networked wireless modem environment.

It displays the data in real time chart form such as line type, bar type, pie type
etc. in any internet connected PC / Laptop either for viewing by self or by public.
The real time data is also seen at the sending end upon a LCD display interfaced
to the microcontroller.

The power supply consists of a step down transformer 230/12V, which steps
down the voltage to 12V AC. This is converted to DC using a Bridge rectifier and
it is then regulated to +5V using a voltage regulator 7805 which is required for the
operation of the microcontroller , 3.3 volt for the Wi-Fi unit and other components.

RECOMMENDATION

For the development and implementation of real-time monitoring system

for remote patients using wireless technology, the developed system would inform
the doctor in case of emergency through alarms; however, delay in alarms might
occur due to weak signals of 3G networks in some remote areas. Though the
delayed alarming time is still within the golden period of time it should be
considered in future research. As wireless technology is emerging day by day, the
use of latest wireless technology may overcome these issues which ultimately
increases the applicability and usefulness of the proposed remote monitoring
system. Furthermore, false alarms can be generated due to the battery issues of
sensors and smartphone. The research can be extended to overcome these
battery and false alarm limitations.

2. Theft Warning Of Vehicle Over SMS To Owner

ABSTRACT

This project is done by sending an auto-generated SMS to the owner. An

added advantage of this project is that the owner can send back the SMS which
will disable the ignition of the vehicle.

As the crime rate is going up, security system for vehicles is extremely essential.
In this proposed system if someone tries to steal the car, the microcontroller gets
an interrupt through a switch mechanism connected to the system and
commands the GSM modem to send an SMS.

The owner receives the SMS that his car is stolen. He can then send back an
SMS to the GSM modem to stop the engine. The GSM modem interfaced to the
microcontroller, receives the message, the output of which activates a
mechanism that disables the ignition of the vehicle resulting in stopping the
vehicle. The project uses a lamp to indicate the engine ON/OFF condition.

Thus, owner of the vehicle from anywhere can switch off ignition of his car. This
project can be further enhanced by integrating a GPS system, which will give
exact position of the vehicle in terms of its latitude and longitude. Further this data
can be sent to the owner via SMS who can enter this value on Google maps to
get the exact location of the vehicle.

4. Electricity Energy Reader Through Internet

ABSTRACT

For this innovative work we had taken a digital energy meter whose blinking
LED signal is interfaced to a microcontroller of 8051 family through a LDR. The
blinking LED flashes 3200 times for 1 unit.

The LDR sensor gives an interrupt each time the meter LED flashes to the
programmed micro controller. The microcontroller takes this reading and displays
it on an LCD duly interfaced to the microcontroller.

The reading of the energy meter is also sent to a GSM modem being fed
from the microcontroller via level shifter IC and RS232 link. The SIM used in the
modem being internet enabled transmits the data directly to a dedicated web
page for display anywhere in the world in multi-level graphical format.

The power supply consists of a step down transformer 230/12V, which steps
down the voltage to 12V AC. This is converted to DC using a Bridge rectifier and

8. Wireless Door-Locking System Using Bluetooth Technology

ABSTRACT

Not being able to lock the main door, back door, bedroom door, and other
important doors of a residential house may happen from time to time. To avoid
this problem, a locking system should be applied to all the doors in order to ensure
locking of doors. Locking all the doors with the use of conventional locks or the
currently available electronic locks may be time-consuming especially if the
doors to be locked are distant from each other. In addition, having a bulk of keys
may add to the inconvenience especially if these keys were lost or misplaced.

9. An Analytic And Comparative Wi-Fi Energy Harvester Design

ABSTRACT

Wi-Fi sources can be found in almost all establishments nowadays, even on

transportation vehicles, malls, houses. Your phones and laptops can detect Wi-Fi
sources almost everywhere. This is the opportunity to contribute to the already
existing body of knowledge about harvesting energy and convert it to other forms
of useable energy.

This is about how they designed and experimented using two antennas
(one omnidirectional and one unidirectional antenna) and a rectifier with a 3pF
capacitor and two different diodes (HSMS 2820 and HSMS 2860) to harvest a signal
from a Wi-Fi source (router), and convert this signal to a DC voltage. They
experimented to know how large or how small the voltage their antenna device
will be able to produce to know which applications this study can be applied on.

Through experiment, it can be concluded that it is possible to harvest a Wi-

Fi signal, although the voltage converted was small. Hence, this thesis can be

13. Characterization Of A Piezo-Electric Generator As An Ocean Current/Wave
Energy Harvesting

ABSTRACT

The project focuses on characterizing a piezoelectric bender connected

to different conditioning circuits that will harvest energy from simulated ocean
movement. Waves are an excellent source of energy, are a natural resource, and
are renewable. Capturing wave energy in shallow water is an ideal solution for
energy generation as a device can take advantage of wave energy is at its
maximum (potential and kinetic) points. How much energy is captured depends
upon a number of factors: wave translation, wave height, the number of waves
in a set period, the type of converter used and its efficiency of capturing both the
potential and kinetic wave energy.

This will touch upon fundamentals of efficient and economical extraction

of energy from shallow ocean waves as well as discuss design considerations
utilizing piezoelectricity as an energy converter. It can be shown that the capture
and storage of shallow wave energy in this manner is comparable to energy
generated from other sources, such as fossil fuels, solar power, and
hydrodynamic.

14. Footstep Power Generation Using Piezo Electric Transducers

ABSTRACT

The piezoelectric material converts the pressure applied to it into electrical

energy. The source of pressure can be either from the weight of the moving
vehicles or from the weight of the people walking over it. The output of the
piezoelectric material is not a steady one. So a bridge circuit is used to convert
this variable voltage into a linear one. Again an AC ripple filter is used to filter out
any further fluctuations in the output. The output dc voltage is then stored in a
rechargeable battery. As the power output from a single piezo-film was extremely
low, combination of few Piezo films was investigated.

Here a combination of both parallel and series connection is employed for

producing 40V voltage output with high current density. From battery provisions
are provided to connect dc load. An inverter is connected to battery to provide
provision to connect AC load. The voltage produced across the tile can be seen
in a LCD.

For this purpose microcontroller PIC16F873A is used. The microcontroller uses

a crystal oscillator for its operation. The output of the microcontroller is then given
to the LCD which then displays the voltage levels. The inverter used in this circuit
uses the IC CD4047. It is used to convert the DC voltage stored in the battery to
AC voltage. IC CD4047 produces two pulse trains phase shifted by 180. These
pulse trains are used to switch transistors configured in common emitter mode
producing pulse trains of 12V, which is capable of switching a MOSFET. The
sources of the two MOSFETs used in the inverter circuit are supplied with a 12V
supply. When the MOSFETs are switched on by the outputs of the transistors, two
output pulses of 12V are obtained. These pulses are connected to a step up
transformer from whose high voltage side; we obtain the 220V AC supply.

19. Energy Harvesting Halogen Lamp Holder

ABSTRACT

Energy harvesting involves various methods to take advantage of the

ambient energy that is being wasted, and exploit it in the form of electricity. Waste
energy can be small differences in heat, vibration, radio waves or simply
mechanical work from people in motion. The basic principle in energy harvesting
is based on the piezoelectric, thermoelectric or pyroelectric effects of some
materials. This study focuses on using the thermoelectric capabilities of a
thermoelectric cooler (TEC) used as a thermoelectric generator (TEG) in
converting wasted heat emitted by a halogen lamp. Thermoelectric generators
are solid state devices that convert temperature differences directly into
electrical energy, using a phenomenon called the Seebeck effect. With the
expected low efficiency of thermoelectric generators, the goal of this study is to
charge a 3.7V battery rating 1200 mAh to 90% using the electricity produced, as
well as to record the time it takes. To improve the temperature difference on the
TEC, fans and heat sinks were attached on each TECs placed in specific locations
on the halogen lamp holder. Based on the statistical analysis using one-way
ANOVA with a confidence level of 95%, the researchers found that there was a
significant difference between the voltage/current results of the five TEC modules.

For future research, the researchers recommend to further increase

temperature generation, dissipation, and difference. One way is by changing the
lamp itself with a different wattage and add proper insulation between the hot
and cold side to achieve a higher temperature difference, minimum heat is
tolerated at the cold side of the module. Further, alternative thermoelectric
modules with better specifications is recommended rather than the ones used in
this research to better increase the generated voltage and current. The use of
TEG modules instead of TEC modules would preferable to achieve more efficient
results.
OUR OBJECTIVE FROM THE TITLE

To be able to acquire a very large temperature difference in order to

produce higher voltage and current.

20. An Alternative Source Of Electricity To Light Up LED Bulbs Through Piezoelectric

Energy Harvesting System Using Droplets Of Rainfall

ABSTRACT

The use of electricity is vital for daily human existence. Thus, there has been
a constant growth in finding alternative sources of electricity. In the Philippines
where there is more or less 6 months of rainy season, rainfall could be used as a
source of mechanical energy that will be converted into electricity. The aim of
this study is to develop a rainfall energy harvesting system during the onset of the
rainy season. The study examined the duration and intensity of rainfall when
charging the batteries of the system to produce and store electricity to light up
LED bulbs. This study covers the development and implementation of the
piezoelectricity energy harvesting device. A system prototype was developed
and was tested through different intensities of rain. Through experimental method
of gathering data, the researchers were able to differentiate system responses.
From the gathered data, the system was able to harvest energy through

21. Vibration Energy Monitoring Using Piezoelectric Sensor On Tricycle

ABSTRACT

Tricycles are widely used all around the Philippines and emit different kinds
of energy and cause various environmental issues. These tricycles produce
vibration energy which is wasted but instead can be harvested to be used for
other purposes. Vibration energy is one of the forms of energy that can be
harvested in moving vehicles like tricycles. The shock absorber attached to the
motorcycle and its sidecar can be a source of this energy. As the tricycle travels
along the road, the shock absorber absorbs and dissipates energy, it also reduces
the effect of traveling over rough ground, leading to improved ride quality, and
increase in comfort due to substantially reduced amplitude of disturbances while
the sidecar vibrates due to the condition of the roads. The vibration from shock
absorber and from its sidecar can be converted into electrical energy that will
serve as an additional energy source for electric and hybrid vehicles.
Piezoelectric sensors are devices that use piezoelectric effect to measure
pressure, acceleration, strain or force by converting them to an electrical charge.
The piezoelectric effect is an effect in which energy is converted between
mechanical and electrical form.

This study is on how to determine the amount of the vibration energy from
a tricycle and use this as an additional source of energy. The main component of
the prototype is the circuit design that will have piezoelectric sensors and
microcontroller.

HOW TO TEST THE PROTOTYPE IF PROGRAMMING IS NEEDED

RECOMMENDATION

The design of the whole system be improved to make the monitoring system
of the vibrations in the tricycle more efficient. This can be done by changing the
type of piezoelectric transducer that is used. In order to improve voltage, this
project suggests that more sensors should be placed on the seats of the tricycle
and to consider other places in the tricycle for the sensor placement. The program
that was used can be improved and be further developed and that additional
components that can improve the voltage quality should be included. Also, study
other means of transportation such us jeepney and other vehicles and to study
the effects of the weight of the passengers to the vibrations inside the vehicle.
OUR OBJECTIVE FROM THE TITLE

To be able to design a circuit that determines the amount of and analyse

vibration energy through piezoelectric sensors that are attached to different parts
of the tricycle, and to study the dependency of the generated voltage to the
road conditions.
