Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Teachers should be paid
according to how much their students learn. Give specific reasons and examples to
support your opinion.

The role of teachers in education has been a hotly discussed topic. Many people argue that teachers salary
should be decided on the basis of the amount of knowledge their students acquire. From my perspective, I
strongly disagree with this argument.

There is no denying that some students acquire new knowledge extremely fast while others do it much slower.
Therefore, how much students learn is sometimes out of teachers control. For example, some students are born
intelligent and they outperform other students. As a result, they are faster in understanding new concepts,
theories and formulas compared to most of their fellow students. It is not the quality of teaching that matters
a lot in their learning capacity, but it is their own talents. On the other hand, consider a student who is much
below in capacity of an average student of his/her age, this student will requires a longer period of time to
grasp what is taught and also will be much slower in producing results, even he/she is in the hands of the best
teacher. B y and large, t his is wh y I believe t hat th is s ystem does no t p ro vide any lo gic al

In t he sec ond plac e, th e true value of the t eac hing prof ession is not ew orth y. Obviously, teaching
Linking words is a very respectable and highly-regarded profession by which many people earn their livings. Therefore, the
teachers should be adequately compensated for their hard labor, skills, commitment and sacrifice. In my
country, teachers are considered ones second parents who are instrumental in making a brighter future for
their students. More notably, according to our culture, teaching is a great mission, and not a mere profession.
Not only do teachers provide their students with the theoretical knowledge, but they also influence the moral
of their students. Consequently, if a teacher is evaluated and paid according to the students capacity of
learning, this profession will lose its dignity while taking a more commercialized approach. Without doubt,
no s ooner is this appro ac h c arried out than the true value o f teac hing profession is under
threat.

In short, different learning paces of different learners and the true value of the teaching profession are
convincing reasons for my argument. Hopefully, teachers will be handsomely and fairly paid to encourage
them to perform better in their career.
