SOS Services Training - Interpretation I 1

Description:
The 4 day classroom training will be done at various locations to satisfy the
needs of all Caterpillar marketing regions. The main purpose of the classroom
training is to teach the interpretation process for oils and coolants. The
interpretation process is taught through lecture and practice with numerous case
studies. Case studies are based on actual oil analysis and coolant analysis
reports, as recorded in the SOS Services Manager data base. SOS Services
Manager screen shots are used exclusively in the case studies.

The classroom training consists of seven sessions that cover oil interpretation
and three sessions that cover coolant interpretation. The oil interpretation
sessions are as listed:

1. Oil Interpretation Process


2. Interpretation of Common Problems
3. Interpretation of Diesel Engine Oils
4. Interpretation of Gas Engine Oils
5. Interpretation of Powershift Transmission Oils
6. Interpretation of Hydraulic System Oils
7. Interpretation of Differential & Final Drive Oils

The coolant interpretation sessions are as listed:

1. Coolant Interpretation Process


2. Coolant Common Problems
3. Coolant Chemistries

The fuel interpretation session are listed:


1. Fuel Systems
Objectives:
At the end of the Interpretation I Training, the student will have the training and
experience to effectively interpret oil and coolant samples at the dealership. This
training will equip the student to:

1. Understand the difference between normal and abnormal wear in a


lubricated compartment
2. Understand the results of the various oil analysis tests and their effect
on wear
3. Answer the four questions about an oil sample
a. Has the wear rate increased?
b. Has the oil deteriorated?
c. Is the oil contaminated?
d. Is this the correct oil?
4. Understand and utilize trend analysis
5. Understand the value and limitations of Wear Tables

6. Prepare a report that emphasizes the significant results


7. Formulate a recommendation that adds value to the report
8. Understand and apply alert levels to a report
9. Understand the common problems that can occur in most lubricated
compartments

10. Understand problems that are specific to certain compartments.

13. Understand difference between Level 1 and Level 2 coolant testing.
