This journal article summarizes a study on the effectiveness of 3.6% topical ALA-PDT for treating severe acne vulgaris. The study was conducted from April 2016 to May 2016 at Wuxi No. 2 People's Hospital in China. It involved applying a topical photosensitizing agent followed by exposure to red light to destroy acne-causing bacteria. The results showed a significant reduction in acne lesions with minimal side effects, suggesting ALA-PDT is an effective treatment for severe acne vulgaris.
