Dear Friends,
One of my favorite activities is reading. From history to science and from philosophy
to religion, my unending curiosity compels me to read. A book that has recently
gained my attention is The ShallowsWhat the Internet is doing to our Brains by
Nicholas Carr.

In his book, Carr suggests that people's brains constantly develop as we go through
new experiences. Basically, no matter what age, a dog can always learn new tricks:
think of grandparents learning to use the Internet, or teenagers studying a foreign
language. As we gain information and new skills throughout our lives, new brain
synapses generate which permanently change our minds makeup.

To me, the notion that our brains are ever-changing means that people continue to
grow, and the world steadily grows with it. Taking it a step further, as things
improve, we should always have hope of a brighter tomorrow.

This month, we celebrate Ashtabula Citys Week of Hope from Sept 16-22. It is my
hope that the week of celebrating will help rekindle hope within our community and
show that new ideas and experiences will help us revitalize, reinvent and reinvigorate
the Sharpest Corner of the State. I urge you all to join us for this months Week of
Hope, and as always, I am glad to stand with you to help move our community
forward.

Sincerely,

Follow Us Today!

Charter school sponsors should return money/New bill would protect domestic violence victims

I feel ensuring a quality education for our children should not

be a partisan issue. Moving forward, I hope we can do a
better job at shining light on the misuse of taxpayer funds
and ensuring that charter schools operate in a transparent,
accountable manner.

Dem lawmakers proposal seeks to address domestic violence

by allowing judicial discretion in cases of temporary
protection orders allowing a judge to order the surrender of
firearms while a temporary restraining order is in effect.

State raids severance tax fund to pay off unrelated lawsuit settlement

I believe lawmakers should be held accountable for resorting to

one-time cash-grabs and shell games to prop up a budget that
apparently missed the mark. This move sheds new light on what I
feel are dangerous and dishonest financial tricks Republican
lawmakers in Ohio will play to bolster political talking points.
