dred committed to going on a
summer project and one hun-

one year of their lives to voca-
tional ministry. In addition to
giving their time these same stu-
dents pledged to give over
$100,000 to God’s kingdom in
2010. But they didn’t come to
Baltimore with that in mind.
Chanin Kelly opened
the conference by looking at
the woman at the well in John 4.
When life is going out of control
where do you go for comfort
and control? Are you drinking
living water (Jesus) or salt water
(worldly things)? How do you
quench your thirst?
Darryl Smith, reminded us that If
you’re not happy in a duplex,
then a big house will not make
you happy. In order to radiate
His life you need to have the life.

Dan Haseltine, the lead
singer of Jars of Clay referred to
James 1:27—Religion that is pure
and undefiled before God, the
Father, is this: to visit orphans
and widows in their affliction, and
to keep oneself unstained from
the world. A great speaker, Dan
motivated students to step out of
their comfort zones to be a ser-
vant to the world and help those

was Rick James (no, not that Rick
James). Illustrating the food
chain, very roughly and inaccu-
rately for the most part, he
showed us that death is always at
the top. Death devours every-
thing, until the resurrection. Life
is the new death and death is our
friend.
My summary is choppy
at best and doesn’t do the speak-
ers justice. This is merely a snip-
pet to help you identify with the
many students who are no longer
finding life in drinking, good
grades, dating or themselves but
are now satisfying their pallets
with living water and are experi-
encing new life as a result.

A Renewed Heart
The conference got off to a rocky start when the
bottom: hotel put me in the wrong room and my parking card
