Due to the extremely hot weather we are experi-
encing, we have decided to move the date for the
picnic to Sunday, September 26th.

CRAFT TABLE FOR THE PARISH PICNIC: The Women's
Guild is again providing tables for crafts at the parish picnic, on

THE ELIJAH CUP
The Elijah Cup is a chalice that is given to parishioners
and families to take home from Mass to use as a focal
point while praying for vocations. You may sign up for
the Mass of your choice in the main church entrance or
call Liz Schantz: 7/518-6836.
All parents who wish to have their children baptized in the
month of September will need to attend a Baptism Class
on Monday, August.16th Please call the office to regis-
ter. Parents will need to be registered and active mem-
bers of the parish for a minimum of three months prior to
taking the class.

The St. Andrew's Conference of St. Vincent de Paul will
meet Saturday, August 21st at 8:00am in the RCIA
room for mandatory Child Safety Training. This training
course is required of all St. Vincent de Paul members or
persons interested in becoming a member of our
conference.
ST. MARTIN DE PORRES HOMELESS
SHELTER: St. Martin de Porres will be going down-
town next Sunday, August 22nd. If you are able to
donate any of the following, we would greatly appreciate
it: Sandwiches -- peanut butter and jelly or bologna and cheese on
white bread in individual sandwich bags. We ask for 40 sandwiches (4
loaves of bread) from each volunteer, but any amount would be ap-
preciated. Fruit -- oranges and bananas are preferred Candy — big
bags of small candy bars are perfect. Powdered lemonade mix -
regular or pink. Also, we need plastic grocery bags to place the meals
in.
Please bring your donations to the parish hall before 11:30am. If
you need to bring your sandwiches before Sunday, you can put them
in the parish hall kitchen refrigerator and we'll find them.
Volunteers are also needed to help pack the lunches following
10:30 Mass. We do need someone to drive the lunches to the Union
Mission. If you are interested in driving this Sunday or anytime in
the future, please let them know. It's easy and rewarding and you
are usually back by 2:00pm.

may be calling you to the Legion of Mary. The Legion is
an association of Catholic laity who serve the parish
through prayer and active work. The Legion meets
weekly each Thursday at 10:00am. One of its works is
visiting the sick and homebound and taking the Eucharist to them.
Ministers of the Eucharist must be trained and certified by the Archdio-

SECOND COLLECTION: Next weekend our second collection is
for the St. Vincent de Paul Society in the Archdiocese of Atlanta. The
Society serves in many communities and neighborhoods throughout
the Archdiocese, where its members consistently reach out with com-
passion and practical assistance to people living in extreme hardship.
Our gifts to this collection go directly to provide emergency shelter,
food and clothing. We can, like Christ, serve the poorest of the poor
who are among us through our wholehearted support of the St. Vincent
de Paul Society.

Session One: The Voice of God

Living every day with passion and purpose requires first and foremost that we take time to listen to the voice of God in our lives. When we
learn how to do this and faithfully make it a habit in our lives, incredible things begin to happen! In this powerful and reflective presenta-
tion, Matthew will help us answer these questions...

Session Two: The Jesus Question
Being intimately familiar with the Jesus of the Gospels is critical if we are to live as disciples of Jesus in the modern world. St Paul writes
that it is no longer he that lives, but Christ who lives in him! We have all desired to know Christ in this intimate, life-changing man-
ner. Jesus once said, "I have come to set the world on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!" Learn how your life can become a
blaze with the passion and purpose of Christ as Matthew helps us discover the answers to these questions...
• Who is Jesus?
• Who does society say he is?
• Who do you think he is?
• Who does he claim to be?
• How can we approach the Gospel stories about Jesus that we have heard dozens of times in ways that are fresh and revealing?
• How do you figure out who Jesus is to you? What does he ask of you?
IN what ways does the world need Jesus today?

Session Three: Understanding Your Spiritual History

In order to figure out where we are going, sometimes we need to figure out where we have been. Every journey toward something is a jour-
ney away from something. This session will be an interactive workshop that helps participants recognize various patterns that have been
present their whole lives, by exploring hopes, fears, self-destructive behaviors, relationships, and ambitions. Prayer, the Sacraments, and
various spiritual disciplines play an enormous role in liberating us from self-destructive patterns that tend to plague all our lives in one way
or another. The genius of Catholicism is that it demonstrates God’s interest in the whole person, not just spiritually, but also physically,
emotionally, intellectually, and psychologically. We all need these answers to our deepest questions...
• Why did God make me? What does he want? What does he offer?
• I want to be a better person, but I struggle with the same old sins and vices? How can Jesus help me?
• How can I break out of this cycle of needing to confess the same sin over and over again?
Can I really grow strong in my faith?
Session Four: Set the World on Fire
St. Catherine of Sienna wrote, “If you are what you should be you will set the world on fire.” Here are practical answers to the questions
introduced in Session Two. If we begin to live passionately and purposefully the way God is calling us to live we will set our workplace,
marriage, family, parish, and community on fire. The first Christians lived, worked, and loved differently. As a result they captured the
imaginations of the people of their times. They intrigued people. Unfortunately as Catholics in the modern world we tend to just blend in.
When we are living the life God invites us to live we will intrigue the people of our times in the same way the first Christians captured the
imaginations of the people of their time.
• Who does your life intrigue?
• What is the number one thing I can do for Jesus? For my family and children? For my friends and neighbors?
• I worry about my children... I can't give them what I don't feel I have. How can I help them find Jesus and gain heaven?
How can I be a saint in this world today? Is it even possible?

LA CATEQUESIS ES UN PROCESO CONTINUO: Al igual que un
niño no puede aprender a leer en un año, tampoco puede aprender todos los
conocimientos que deben saber de nuestra religión con la preparación que
reciben EN DOS ANOS para la hacer primera comunión. Es por lo tanto
importante que sigan el estudio que comenzaron, para que puedan desarro-
llar su vida espiritual que los guiaran y ayudaran a vivir y defender su Fe.
Además, el niño necesita el estudio sistemático de la doctrina para hacer la
Confirmación.
Las inscripciones para la Catequesis del 2010-11 esta abierta,
cada niño tiene que inscribirse todos los años. El costo del pro-
grama es de $50 por alumno, cantidad que debe abonarse al
inscribirse o dar un deposito de $25 por alumno. Después de
agosto 31 habrá un recargo de $10.
Si alguien esta pasando por una situación económica difícil en
este momento por favor hablen déjennoslo saber y haremos
todo lo posible por acomodar su situación.
Las clases de catequesis comienzan el 19
de Septiembre y terminan el 15 de Mayo de
2011. La Primera Comunión es el 21 de
Mayo a las 12:00 am .
FECHA IMPORTANTE: Sept. 12. Orientación a Padres de familia e hijos.
Asignación de salón, entrega de calendario y presentación de maestras. 5:00-
6:30 pm.

REQUISITOS
BAUTISMO. Los padres tienen que estar registrados y asis-
tiendo a la misa dominical por lo menos tres meses antes
del bautismo de sus hijos. Presentar Acta de Nacimiento del
niño/a. Padrinos casados sacramentalmente deben de traer
copia del certificado de Matrimonio. Solteros: mayores de 16
años de edad, certificado de Bautismo. Parejas en unión
libre no califican para ser padrinos. Pláticas de preparación:
Primer Martes del mes de 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm, asistencia obl-
toria de padres y padrinos. Ceremonia Bautismal segundo Sábado de
mes a las 11:00 am. Entrega de documentos miércoles.
CONFIRMACION. Este curso de preparación es de dos
años para jóvenes que han hecho la Primera Comunión
y estén en noveno o decimo grado. Inscripción en la
oficina del Ministerio Hispano.
MATRIMONIO. Inscritos en la parroquia. Reservar la fecha
con seis meses de anticipación. Certificado de bautismo actua-
lizada, licencia pre-matrimonial, clases de preparación LLA-
SU(Llamados a ser uno). Cita con el padre. Inscribirse en el
Ministerio Hispano.
CATECUMENADO: Rito de Iniciación Católica para Adultos y
jóvenes mayores de 9 anos que les falten todos a algún sacramento.
Clases domingos a las 5:30 pm. Inscribirse en el Ministerio Hispano.
