Exclusively with UK Made Deep Sea Controllers
Configuration, Options and Specifications

The Welland Power range of multi-set systems, allows multiple generators to be synchronised together and
close in parallel. Multiple units configured using Deep Sea Electronics 8000 series based control panels can
be used to run even the most demanding applications. Incorporating fully automatic synchronising and load
demand based start / stop functionality, the Welland Power range of synchronised units is the solution.

system.

Set mounted synchronising is our most popular option and involves each set having its synchronising panel, including
the automatic breaker, mounted on the generator. This system is preferred because it is more modular and therefore
more practical for many applications, taking into consideration medium-long term application demands. The system is
cheaper to install and it requires less control wiring on site, saving installation cost. We supply this system as standard.

The exceptional resilience of the synchronising system allows many combinations of units to ensure that the final
outcome matches your application, while the modular system design provides future proof adaptability.

A set mounted synchronising system will have a control panel utilizing a DSE 8610 on each generator, with an optional
automatic transfer switch remotely mounted.

Floor Standing Automatic Synchronising System

A remote, floor standing panel can be used as an alternative to set mounted systems. This however significantly
increases the cost of the project, while adding little tangible benefit to the overall system. It requires additional cabling
and a lot of additional setup time. For this reason we do not offer this system for synchronising as standard.

A floor standing synchronising system will have a large control panel utilizing a DSE 8610 control bay for each generator,
optionally with bays for an automatic transfer switch or outgoing circuit breaker.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Synchronising Multiple Sets

Below are the commonly cited reasons for synchronising generators. Some of them may be different for your
application; we can assist you in determining the best solution to meet your requirement. We feel that in almost all
applications, the great advantages outweigh the negatives.

increased power or higher availability.
Synchronising with the Mains
Synchronising with the mains can be done either with a single generator, or multiple generators. They can be used for
peak lopping, where the generators are used to reduce the maximum demand, or for exporting power back to the grid.

In all cases, synchronising with the mains requires the input of the local power company and local distribution
company to ensure that the unit supplier is safe according to local regulations. In some countries paralleling with the
mains is not allowed in any circumstances.

Single Set Synchronising with the Mains

A single set to the mains synchronising system will have a control panel utilizing a DSE 8620 on the generator. In this
configuration the unit is not able to work in standby mode, as there is no isolation between the load and the mains. If
you require the set to act also in a standby capacity, then you should use the multiple set system below, but have only
one generator in the system.

Multiple Set Synchronising with the Mains

Multiple sets to the mains synchronising system will have a control panel utilizing a DSE 8610 on each generator and a
mains panel housing a DSE 8660. The DSE 8660 is responsible for synchronising the sets to the mains and also controls
the isolation between the mains and the load (typically two motorized breakers that are not interlocked, so they can act
independently). In this configuration the generators can parallel with the mains or provide standby power in the event
of mains failure.

Bypass Switches
While often neglected from system design due to cost, bypass switches provide an essential function in applications that
require online maintenance of the transfer sections. A bypass switch enables an engineer to bypass the transfer section
temporarily to do repair and preventative maintenance work, as well as providing a method of restoring mains in the
event of failure within the transfer section.
