Experimental Design:
Objectives:
- To find out that one variable that affects the strength of an electromagnet.
Questions:
- How does the number of coils in an electromagnet affect its strength?
- Does the thickness or length of the wire affect the power of the electromagnet?
- The variable that determines the strength of the electromagnet is the Independent variable
which is the number of coils, battery, or the length or thickness of the nail.
Variables:
Independent The number of coils or loops created on the nail.
Dependent The magnets strength that will be created.

Hypothesis:
- If the number of coils increases, then the strength of the magnet increases because the
magnet has more power through wire to it.
- If the voltage of the battery is increased, then the power of the magnet will also increase.

Real World Physics:
1. If you needed to create a stronger electromagnet for use in a small space, such as inside a
laptop computer, what method would you use to increase the electromagnetic strength,
given the size constraints?
- The method that we are going to do here is to make a smaller electromagnet. We are
going to use these following factors like increasing the number of coils inside, create a
bigger current However, there is a limit to how much current can flow in the wires before
it gets too hot. Also, a bigger current means that more energy is wasted (as heat) in the
coil and in the connecting wires. So, it is often best to try to increase the strength by
adding more turns rather than increasing the current.

- Another one is having more turns. Imagine you have an electromagnet made from a
single turn of wire. You then add another turn. It's like putting another electromagnet next
to the first one. So, the strength of the magnet increases. The more turns, the stronger the
magnet will become. Or having an Iron core, a magnetic material, consist of magnetic
particles. By doing this, it can double already the number of terms or the current.

2. Some buildings have electromagnets to hold fire doors open when the building is
occupied. These magnets are mounted to the wall, like a door stop, behind the door.
Thinking about the actions of a fire alarm system would need to perform to control a fire.
What is the advantage of using a system like this to hold the doors? How might a system
like this be an advantage, or a disadvantage, in the event of the natural disaster?

- Using electromagnets, fire doors are always kept close to prevent smoke from entering
hall ways and other rooms in the building when there is fire. Smoke is one of the main
reasons that causes deaths in the occupants in the building. Thus, electromagnets in fire
doors save lives.

- The dissanvantage, is that a person can be trapped uses the stairs when tranferring from
another. During a natural dissaster like earthquakes, people living the building using the
stairs will be trap and cause death

3. Some electric bells work by having an arm strike the side of a metal dome shaped bell.
How might an electromagnet be used to make this bell work? How might the bell be
wired to allow the arm to strike repeatedly (continual ringing) until the power supply is
removed?

- An electromagnet can be used to make electric bells work. The current flows through the
circuit, which will make the electromagnet create a magnetic field. The arm hits the gong,
which makes a sound. The bell will continue ringing until the power supply is removed
because this is its source of the electromagnet that will make itself work and ring
continuosly.
