IB DP Check-List

(Note: the following items are not necessarily in order)

Hand Book of Procedures (Vade Mecum)

The handbook changes every academic year and there are two formats of handbook which are
online and pdf. The handbook is available in IBIS (IB Information System) and OCC (Online
Curriculum Centre)
(Note: the online version can be found in the following link
https://ibpublishing.ibo.org/server3/apps/handbook/index.html?doc=d_0_dpyyy_vmx_1409_1_e&p
art=1&chapter=1 ).
It is important for administrators, IB DP coordinators and IB DP teachers to be aware that they can
locate a lot of information in the handbook (such as due dates, Internal Assessment Forms, subject
explanation, etc.)

IB Learner Profile
There are ten IB learner profile (Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Open-minded, Caring, Thinkers, Risk-
takers, Communicators, Balanced, Principled and Reflective) and Administrators and IB teachers
need to be familiar with all of them.
IB learner profile is part of IB mission statement and it is important for DP teachers to include them
in their teaching. (Note: it is understood that one teacher may not be able to cover all of the profile
in a single chapter but he/she should be able to incorporate them throughout the two year DP
program.
Another way to promote the profile is by putting posters in classes and IB DP library to increase the
schools community awareness of the profile and IB program.

OCC (Online Curriculum Centre)

Coordinators and DP teachers must have an OCC account and they need to access the site on a
regular basis. The site is particularly useful for finding teaching material and Internal Assessment
resources, coordinators note and changes in syllabus.

Subject Report
Subject report is released every academic year and it consists of IB DP schools performance from
the last examination. This means that a school can compare its performance (subjects wise) against
other DP schools. The detail of the last examination results will also be sent to the school and it
contains a more detail information regarding the result such as the breakdown of the score(Internal
and External Assessment Scores).
The most recent Grade Boundaries can also be found in the subject report and the boundaries are
usually applied to Mock Exam score.
Session Calendar
Session Calendar is available in the Handbook (or Vade Mecum) where it contains a list of due dates.
It is important for Administrators, DP Coordinator and DP Teachers to know these due dates so that
A school due dates can be made. Schools due dates are usually set earlier than the due dates set
by IB so that there will still be enough time for checking and sending the works therefore it is wiser
not to make the IB due dates available to students. (Note: Due dates set by the school should be
made available to students but not the due dates set by IB)

DP Day
DP Day or DP Info session is a medium to promote IB DP to parents of Grade 10 or Sec 4 in
particular. Some schools make the most of the opportunity to familiarize the parents about the
program. One format that can be used is as followed:
DP Coordinator brief parents and students about the general information about IB and DP
Teachers present their subject based on the group (Group 1-First Language, Group 2-Second
Langugae, etc and followed by Core subjects ToK, CAS, EE). (Note: maximum 5 minutes per
teacher)
Teachers then break up and go to their stations/desks just like in the PTC, and parents can come
and ask them about their subjects in a more detail.
DP Day is also used as an opportunity for Sec-4 students to make their IB DP subjects selection,
thus the subject selection forms must be made available in the event.

Career Counselor
A career counselor plays an important part to the success of IB DP because what parents see is the
final product which is whether students can enter top universities and whether students can get
scholarship having done the Diploma Program. Therefore, a counselor must have a program to assist
the students beginning in Sec 4.
First is to find out what their interests are and find out the most suitable one. This can be done by
conducting a psychological test provided by outside vendor.
Provide students with information about universities such as the minimum IB DP score required
to enter a particular major, available scholarships, etc.
A counselor then makes a yearly record of students and where they go after leaving the school
(their majors, universities and whether they get scholarships). This information can then be used
to promote IB DP in the school.

DP Dunia
DP Dunia (Note: Dunia is Indonesian for world) is a medium for DP teachers to network and each DP
school has one representative which is the DP Coordinator, and DP Dunia is led by one of those
coordinators. The IB DP Coordinators meet at least twice in a year to discuss issues such as Job Alike
(Note: Job Alike is a yearly event where all DP teachers all over Indonesia gather) and DP
training/workshop in Indonesia (usually subjects and categories of trainings are decided in the
meeting).
DP Training
Ideally all DP teachers should have a Category 1 training (based on their subjects). Experience
teachers may have no significant problem in terms of content but they usually encounter significant
problems when it comes to the administrative aspect of the subject (such as Internal Assessment),
therefore they need to be trained. (Note: wait for the training in Jakarta if possible because it will
significantly reduce the cost and information about training can be found in the following link
http://www.ibo.org/professional-development/workshop-categories-and-types/ ).

Exam Time Table

Proposed exam time table is usually available at least 2 months before the final exam schedule is set.
Thus, a coordinate can take note should an exam falls on a holiday so that students of JC 2 can be
informed and invigilators can be set.

IB DP Core
DP Core (CAS, ToK and EE) is always a mystery to many even to Parents, Coordinator, Administrator
and DP Teachers. It would be better for a school (in this case the respective Core teachers) to
familiarize what CAS is.. what CAS requirements are . and similarly to EE and ToK. Please note
that there is an IB DP training on ToK (Category 1) for DP teachers.
In some schools, one person is appointed as an EE coordinator to coordinate the subject distribution
for EE, to check students EE update and arranging Viva Voce. (Note: Viva Voce is basically an activity
to check that students EEs are authentic and it can be done by recording students statements that
their works are original or by holding a session where students present their EEs followed by Q & As,
the audience are usually JC 1 and Grade 10 students. The purpose are to familiarize EE to JC 1 and to
promote IB DP to grade 10 students.

DP Course/Certificate
DP Course or used to be known as Certificate program is available to those students who are not
academically strong. There is no one particular rule that said the minimum number of subjects that a
student need to do in DP Course meaning it is up to the school to set it. But the school needs to set
its DP Course in a manner that does not reduce the standard of the school for example: A school
may request a student to still do CAS plus 3 DP subjects plus the remaining 3 DP subjects (Note: a
student will not be required to submit Internal Assessments and a home made final exam will be set
for the student).

Subject Guide
A subject guide contains important information such as the subject objective, syllabus content,
Internal Assessment rubric and External Assessment. DP teachers need to make sure that they are
using the correct subject guides and make them available to students (online version will do)

IB Logo
IB logo is no longer a hexagon but a circle, so any posters containing an old hexagon model need to
be replaced.
IB Standard Practices
The Standards and Practices can be used as guidance for administrators and teachers in
implementing Diploma Program in a school. IB will then evaluate how the program has been
conducted against these Standard and Practices. Usually a school will need to prepare policies
related to language, academic honesty, differentiated teaching (how to accommodate students with
learning difficulty). IB will send a reminder to the DP Coordinator one year before the due date of
the evaluation. (Note: an example of Standard and Practices can be found in the following link
http://www.ibo.org/globalassets/publications/become-an-ib-school/programme-standards-and-
practices-en.pdf )
