1
1.0 Introduction
This document contains the tender submission of Omega Company for the Mars
Rover. This document was written to respond to the criteria that was determined by the
Nova Company, on the construction of Mars Rover.

2.0 Design package Review

The design package review is to ensure that the Omega Company had fully
understood the design package that was provided by Nova Company.

2.1 Understanding the design

The main material to build the project is wooden block. The body of the project is
built by using 3 different dimension of wooden block. The wooden blocks are named as
block A, block B and block C. The block A is the base, while the block B is for the side.
The block C is used to separate the part that place the egg and the 600ml water bottle. It
is also used to cover the front part and the back part of the project. A piece of plastic is
cut from the mineral bottle and it is used as the bumper part. The mineral bottle piece is
used to cover on the sponge. The purpose of the sponge is to protect the bumper when
free falling from 1 meter distance.
The egg is placed inside a Ladys Choice plastic container. The plastic container
is used to protect the egg to prevent the egg from breaking during the free fall. The
sponge will be filled in the plastic container to protect the egg. The plastic container will
be glued at the block A. For the part that places the 600ml water bottle, two wooden
sticks are used to fix the water bottle to prevent the water bottle from falling out during
the free fall. Other than that, the bottle will not be moving when travelling in a straight
direction. The two wooden stick will be nailed into the block A.
The axles are located below of the block A. The wooden chopsticks are used as
the axles. The cable clips are used to fix the wooden chopsticks. For the wheels, cut a few
cupboard with the radius of 50mm and stick them together. The thickness of the wheels
must be at least 20mm. Drill a hole at the center of the wheel with a radius of 8mm. Insert
the wooden chopsticks into the cable clip, nail the cable clip at the base of block A. Glue
the wheel and insert into the wheel.

2.2 Client Brief Compliance

The Client Brief Compliance for this Mars Rover is to carry one 600ml water
bottle and one uncooked egg travel through a 30-45 degree slop for 2 meter and free
falling from 1 meter without damage the body of the Mars Rover. The dimension of Mars

2
Rover should not more than 420mm by 297mm, the height should not more than 210mm.
Table 1.0 provide the dimension of the design.
Dimension Value (mm)
Length 360 mm
Width without wheels and axles 150 mm
Width with wheels and axles 240 mm
Height 95 mm
Diameter of wheel 100 mm
Length of bumper 158 mm
Thickness of wheel 20 mm

2.3 Concerns and Solution

Omega Company have 3 concerns regarding the project. First, change the Ladys
Choice plastic container to a transparent plastic container. This is because the uncooked
egg that placed in the cargo should be visible from 1 meter distance.

The second concern is to prevent the wheel from separating when the project is
moving. We suggest to add nuts at the axles and the wheels. We can use the hot glue to
make the nuts. This can be cost-saving and it can solve this problem.

The third concern, we suggest to have a plan B. As the material of the axles are
wooden chopsticks, we are afraid that the wooden chopsticks might break during the
testing stage. If the wooden chopsticks did break during the testing stage, the plan B can
be used to resolve the problem. We suggest to replace the wooden chopsticks with steel
sticks. This will be more safe.
