The 25 Annual th

Fort Rowdy Gathering

SEPT. 2 SEPT. 3 SEPT. 4
OPENING CEREMONIES SET FOR SEPT. 2
Opening ceremonies for the 2017 Fort Rowdy Gathering will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday,
Sept. 2, on the main stage in the Covington Community Park. Following the Flag Raising, the
Covington Marching Band will play the National Anthem. Johanna McGrath will then lead
everyone in the singing of God Bless America. The festival committee would like to welcome
all state and local dignitaries, the 2017 Grand Marshals, Ron and Judy Schultz, and the pub-
lic to the 25th Gathering.

Welcome to the 2017 Fort Rowdy Gathering!

The Board of Directors would like to extend a warm welcome to the 25th annual Fort Rowdy Gathering to be held September
2nd, 3rd, and 4th at the Covington Community Park.
Its hard to believe that this Gathering has been in existence for 25 years. It was the brain storming of 20 people. Several
of those are deceased, some are no longer involved, but one individual has been here the whole duration. (Thanks Steve Wright
for being the rock).
Many changes have occurred during these 25 years; however, the emphasis of reenacting the bygone days of the 1700s
frontier life is still strong.
Our gathering allows you to walk across our 208 wooden bridge expanding the Stillwater River that connects present day
festivities to the encampment side.
On the present day side you may enjoy entertainment on our stage, lots of good food, and craft vendors. On the encamp-
ment side you will observe the way of life from the past. Enjoy the aroma of campfires and food cooking over the open fire.
Many hours have been spent planning for this great event for all ages to enjoy.
I would like to thank all the Board members, committee chairpersons, their families, volunteers, and the community for their
support in the many ways you contribute. Without the generous time and money you each give or have given this event would
not be possible.
So, please, each of you come and enjoy a relaxing weekend making memories of this event.
Annette Miller
2017 Fort Rowdy Gathering Chairman

Ron & Judy Schultz Named Grand Marshals of 2017 Gathering
The Fort Rowdy Gathering is pleased to announce Ron and Judy Schultz
as our 2017 Grand Marshals. They are well known in the Covington
community and especially at the schools.
They met at the Versailles Congregational Christian youth group,
and have been married 49 years. Both have been very involved in edu-
cation, their teaching careers starting when they moved to Covington in
1969.

Isbel. They have two daughters, Lauren and Madelyn. One of our great-
est joys is attending our granddaughters school events and visiting with
them on the phone.
Ron taught social studies, science, and P.E. He is well known for his
coaching, which also started in 1969, and continues to today. He has
coached football and basketball. He coached girls and boys golf, and
track, both for 45 years. He currently is a volunteer coach for track and
golf. He was a Student Council Advisor for 30 years, and was involved

Ron and Judy are very involved in the Presbyterian Church and the
community. They have held positions on many Sessions with their
church. They started many group activities, including the Fifth Quarter
Party, the High School Breakfast Club, and Advent by Candlelight. They
help with the all-church recognition of high school seniors in May. They
are both members of the Noon Optimists.
They live by two personal mottos. Ron always tries to accentuate the
positive, and eliminate the negative. He believes that by helping oth-

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might. She believes
that you should use your hands to the best of your ability.
Ron and Judy love Covington because of the school system, the
friendly people, their church family, Pastor Greg Kurtz, and the friendly
neighbors.
Thank you, Ron and Judy for being a great example of community
involvement!
