1

Preface
EPC Flexible Publishing is one of the systems developed by DaimlerChrysler AG together with its specialist partners, and
is used by the parts divisions of DaimlerChrysler AG and its partners to determine part numbers automatically.

The system provides the following range of functions:

. It contains the parts documentation for the current commercial vehicle and passenger car ranges since approx. 1962
and the vehicle data cards since approx. 1978.
. It enables you to determine parts quickly.
. It allows you to call up the parts of a vehicle which are available.
. It contains an open parts transfer interface to business application systems.

The user documentation is combined with the "EPC Flexible Publishing" course to provide you with the knowledge you need
to make optimum use of the "EPC".
General issues relating to the EPC are presented in a comprehensible way and illustrated with text and pictures.

A clear list of contents provides you with quick access to the individual sections in this documentation.
A detailed, alphabetical index facilitates access to all the important terms used in this text.

The instructions provided in the user documentation are based on the software version
Release: 11.2.22

EPC Access Paths 33

3 EPC Access Paths

You always access EPC and the various catalogues available via the EPC initial screen. The data you enter in the EPC initial
screen determines the access path you take.

A distinction is made between the following access paths:

. Vehicle Ident. Number with data card stored in the system.
: Recommended standard access path.
. Vehicle Ident. Number without data card stored in the system.
. Aggregate ID number without access to data card stored in the system.
. Model no. (4, 5 or 6-character and 9-character for industrial engines).
. Type no. (3-character).
. Fast access (Vehicle Ident. Number, aggregate ID number, model no. or type no. together with a group or group/sub-
group number that is valid for the selection.)
: Recommended for experienced EPC users.
. Industrial engines ID no. with data card stored in the system.

i Depending on the access path you have selected, you may be able to skip some of the levels shown in the fol-
lowing diagram, in other words, you do not have to make any entries here.
The diagram only represents a a very simplified overview of the possible access paths in the EPC. The following

48 Data Card

9 Data Card
EPC Flexible Publishing contains the parts documentation for the current commercial vehicle and passenger car ranges
since approx. 1962 and the vehicle data cards since approx. 1978. Information from the data card is used to determine
which is the correct part (e.g. checking footnotes, validity, SAs, code, ...).
After you have entered a Vehicle Ident. Number, call up the data card as follows:
. Select the icon in the toolbar, or
. menu bar "Information/Datacard", or
. select "CF6 DataCard" in the function bar, or
. press keys S + 6.

i The prerequisite is that you enter a complete Vehicle Ident. Number in the EPC initial screen and that the data card
exists in the system.

EPC Flexible Publishing differentiates between the following data card displays:
. Car see Section "9.1 Car Vehicle Data Card"
. Commercial vehicle see Section "9.2 Commercial Vehicle Data Card"
. IMO (industrial engine) see Section "9.3 Industrial Engine Data Card (IMO)"
