Foundation Lesson 15

What is the Gift of Giving?

He who gives, with liberality. - Romans 12:8

Over the next few lessons we will be looking at the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, so we have a better
understanding of them, how they work and how we can from them benefit as a body. By the end of
the lessons we want to be driven to pray to ask for the gifts because we are missing out on so much.
Some of the gifts may use the same Scriptures in acting them out but each gift has its own working.
Please study them again and again we want the Holy Spirit to pour out the fullness of the gifts so we
can serve the Lord better and each other and be a better testimony to the lost.

What is the gift of giving?

All Christians are meant to give to help others Matthew 6:2, but the Holy Spirit gives some people
a gift where they are always looking to give for the Lord. God provides all the needs for these
people to work through them to give. Others know the people who have the gift of giving because it
is a second nature to them, they don't go around telling everyone that they are giving they just do it,
because to them giving is just like taking in air that God has given, it's natural.

The working of the gift of giving

The person with the gift of giving will first give out of love 1 Corinthians 13:3, because they are
good stewards of the gift they will use it to lift the name of Jesus up and to build the body of Christ
up which will be the result because they are moved to give because of love.

The person will with the gift of giving will also give themselves 2 Corinthians 8:5, first giving
themselves to the Lord then to the body of Christ. Giving is not just about giving money, it's about
providing for the church to build up the body of Christ. The person with the gift of giving does not
complain about giving 2 Corinthians 9:7, but gives cheerfully, they just love to give. The do not
hold nothing back from the Lord like Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5, but what they possess is the
Lords.

As Christians we should all be willing to give to build up the body of Christ, to provide for a need
and to help in times of need and we should do so cheerfully as people who are not saved can see a
good testimony of how we help others because Jesus has changed us.

Questions

1) Read 2 Corinthians 9:7. How do you give? Cheerfully? Or with a grudge? Do you even give at
all? If you don't give or give with a grudge search your heart, find the reason why, maybe it's
because you are thinking of yourself and not others, or material things are more important than our
brothers and sisters. Remember God the Father gave His all when He gave His Son to die for our
sins, we should think of this when we are thinking about how we should give.

2) Read Acts 5:1-11. Ananias and Sapphira made out they were giving more than what they were
for Christ. Do you do the same? Do you make out to give to look Spiritual? Do you only give to be
seen. If so repent and pray for God to change your heart in the matter of giving. Also talk to your
Pastor to see if he can help.
