Set Retarding and water reducing admixture

DESCRIPTION COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH

POZZOLITH 405 is a ready-to-use, liquid admixture for
producing more uniform and predictable quality
concrete. Placing and finishing requirements are
facilitated because this admixture retards setting time. It
meets ASTM C494 requirements for type B Retarding
and Type D Water-Reducing and Retarding Admixtures,
with these special characteristics:
POZZOLITH 405 admixture will not initiate or promote
corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete. The admixture
does not contain calcium chloride or chloride-based
ingredients.
RECOMMENDED FOR
POZZOLITH 405 admixture is recommended for use in
all types of concrete where moderate to extended
retardation of set and improved performance are
desired.
This admixture improves pumped concrete, and
conventionally placed concretes. POZZOLITH 405
admixture can be used with air entraining admixtures
approved under ASTM. When used in conjunction with
another admixture, each admixture must be dispensed
separately into the mix. By itself, POZZOLITH 405
admixture does not entrain air.
Concrete produced with POZZOLITH 405 admixture will
have rapid strength development after initial set occurs.
If retardation is within the normal ASTM C 494 types B
and D specifications, POZZOLITH 405 admixture will
develop higher early (24 hours) and higher ultimate
strengths than plain concrete when used within the
recommended dosage range and under normal,
comparable curing conditions.
When POZZOLITH 405 admixture is used in heat cured
concrete, the length of preheating period should be
increased until initial set of the concrete is achieved. The
actual heat-curing period is then reduced accordingly to
maintain existing production cycles without sacrificing
early or ultimate strengths.
DOSAGE
Concrete POZZOLITH 405 admixture is recommended
for use at the rate of 300 100 ml. per 100 kg of
cementitious for most concrete mixes using average
concrete ingredients. Because of variations in job
conditions and concrete materials, dosage rates other
than recommended amounts may be required. In such
cases, contact your local BASF Construction
Chemicals Sales representatives.
