Act of Hope
O my God, relying on your infinite mercy and promises,
I hope to obtain pardon of my sins, the help of your
grace, and life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus
Christ, my Lord and Redeemer.
Amen.
What are virtues and why do kids need them?
Obedience is the first virtue we learn as we develop into confident young students. Stop by our
preschool any day of the week and it is clear: 3 and 4 year olds need obedience. Over time, they
all learn to obey Miss Jessicas rules: sit like a pretzel, pray before snack, stand in line quietly,
share with your friends, listen to the teacher and raise your hand when you know the answer. Sa-
cred Heart preschool is a wonderful place to be a little kid because our friends in school are
taught that when we learn to be obedient we all get the chance to shine in Gods grace. What
would happen if we did not learn to be obedient as we developed? Would kids be able to reach
their true potential?

Obedience is just the first step. As we grow and our brains develop, so does our need for more
virtue. It has an order that we refer to as Steps to Sainthood. Meekness, courtesy, self-control, re-
spect, courage, responsibility and so on.We know that life is for learning lessons. Virtue offers
the opportunity to transform negative behavior into teachable moments, to set clear boundaries
that protect a childs dignity and to establish a daily routine of reverence to God. It is clear that the
heart of all discipline is rooted in our ability to be true and must be conducted in an environment
of trust.

Virtue has to be a true goal of education. Sacred Heart strives to be a school that understands
which virtue kids are struggling with during brain development so we can easily identify the correct
discipline to strengthen a childs soul; not weaken it.

It is our divine goal to send children to the world who know the strength of their developing soul
has a direct link to God. No test, trophy, or accolade; nor mistake, mishap or sin will ever define a
child. A childs worth comes from a conscious, virtuous soul and it is our divine duty as parents
and mentors to enlighten each child to his/her ability to be virtuous.

God Bless,

News from the Preschool
Over the last couple of weeks down in preschool we have been busy thats for sure! We have started
working in our green Get Set For School workbooks working on all of the different colors and we
have just started working on Vertical and Horizontal lines in preparation for starting our very first
letter next week. We have also been busy working in our Religion books talking about how we are
all special because God made us in his image. We have also been talking about how God created to
world and all the animals, plants, birds, stars, moon, etc.

Parents, please remember to sign in your child/children everyday when you drop them off in the
morning. If somebody else is going to be dropping them off please remind them about signing in.
Also, I am sending home beginning of the year evaluations that I have done for each of the
students. I ask that you look them over, sign them, and the please return them as soon as possible.
The main focus of this first evaluation is mainly for me to see where the children are and what we
need to work on in the start of the year. If you have any questions please dont hesitate to email me
at jdehn@sacredhearthudson.org

Have a good weekend!

Dear Sacred Heart Families,

The K-6 students have been busy preparing for Sacred Heart's
booth at the Hillsdale Fair during our art and technology classes.
The theme of our booth is "Come grow with us." All of the students
during art have been working hard on plant themed drawings
while in technology grades 3-6 have been writing short personal
essays about what they want to be when they grow up.

We're so excited to share our hard work with everyone!
