Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

A virtual tour, possibly on 360x180, is a particular case in panoramic photography by stitching.

It is a recent way to show panoramas in an interactive way, hence necessarily online, which

participated in the digital revolution of this field of photography by the way. When you're

watching a virtual tour, it is thus possible to interact with the panorama using your mouse by

rotating it in all directions, from the floor to the ceiling in some cases, to go from one room to

another, to zoom in the image, to read information, to watch videos, etc.

A virtual tour is designed to give the viewer a more life-like 3D view of the location being

presented in the tour, making it popular in the real estate industry where a realistic 3D view of a

home or property can be presented to interested purchasers. In computers, 3-D (three dimensions

or three-dimensional) describes an image that provides the perception of depth. When 3-D

images are made interactive so that users feel involved with the scene, the experience is

called virtual reality. You usually need a special plug-in viewer for your Web browser to view

and interact with 3-D images. Virtual reality experiences may also require additional equipment.

A virtual tour may also be called a panoramic tour.

There are many forms of online media that represents a location. We see photo slideshows and

videos being deemed virtual tours but we dont feel those types of media are even close to

being able to represent a realistic location. 360 panoramic based tours would be our number 1

choice. Why? 360s actually gives the viewer a choice in what to look at in the given location.

Freedom to interact makes the tour the most realistic.

The importance of having a virtual tour is:

You can give an opportunity to see all the things from your eyes

You will attract more clients as they can see your place much better than your rivals

place

You will raise their confidence as they dont need to buy pig in a poke anymore

Clients can sense and fall in love with the atmosphere of your place before they get to

it.

You can retain them on your site much longer. People like to examine the panoramas.

Furthermore, they are not passively looking on photos, but actively interacting with

your site, which makes them memorize it much more effectively.

You can transfer your feelings about some place or event much better.

1.1. Background of the Study

The project will be focusing on the creation of a 360-degree virtual tour about the view of the

museum, inside or outside. It also includes the promotional website wherein the

travellers/tourists may help them have an idea about the museum and also guide them before

going to the museum. Using Autodesk Maya, the 3D character and the museum were created and

animated. Viewing the virtual tour will help the travellers explore first the landmarks near the

museum that will be their guide before going to the museum. The project will be benefit not only

for the travellers/tourists but also to other people who doesnt have enough idea what is the

significance of the cameras and its purpose in the field of photography.

1.2. Significance of the Study

The proposed project will be beneficial to the following:

Galleria Museum in promoting the history and uniqueness of the museum and to show the

physical layout of the museum by using 3D virtual tour.

Tourists for they could get an idea on how the museum look like because they will be able to

visually see the insides of the museum before visiting it.

Photographers for they will be able to learn about the different kinds of cameras and its uses.

And also, for the proponents because it will able to enhance their skills in terms of editing and

creating 3D models and creating a website.

1.3. Objectives

And also, for the proponents because it will able to enhance their skills in terms of editing and

creating 3D models and creating a website.

1.4. Scope and Delimitations

The proposed project will focus on the creation of the 360-degree virtual tour that will help the

people not only the tourist to easily locate the museum. At the same time to give them

information about the history and use of the different cameras collected by the owner of the

museum.

The 360-degree virtual tour is a 3D tour using Autodesk Maya running on the website. The

promotional website contents:

Content Management System (CMS)

The Home page shows images and information about the museum. The About Us page displays

the history of the museum and the camera collector. It also includes the schedule of when the

museum is available and the entrance fee. The Gallery displays the different images of the

cameras and the museum itself. The Contacts page shows information on how the

travellers/tourist will contact the museum. The Advertisement page shows the tagline, the poster

of the museum and the 360-degree virtual tour. The website includes the Content Management

System for the Admin so that he will be able to modify the information on the website.

The project will be implemented by integrating the links of the promotional website on the

current social media that the museum is using and also on their flyers.
The 360-degree virtual tour is limited only to ten (10) cameras for the reason to give the tourists

and/or visitors have an idea of what the museum has and for them also to be curious of the other

cameras by visiting personally the museum.

The promotional website does not include any transaction such as payment and reservation.

1.5. Conceptual Framework

The conceptual framework will display the proposed output based on the input and the process

specified by the proponents of this study.

1.6. Definition of Terms

Technical Terms

Virtual Tour Composed of many still photos or video frames to present an overall view for

each angles of the subjects, usually a building having different parts, or beautiful landscapes with

dissimilar view-angles. People create the photos with camera and lens being rotated around what

is referred to as a nodal point the exact point at the back of the lens where the light converges.

CSS Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) is a style sheet language used to describe the presentation of

a document written in HTML or XML.

HTML Hyper Text Mark-up Language (HTML) is the most basic building block of a webpage

and used for creating and visually representing a webpage. It determines the content of a

webpage, but not its functionality.

Content Management System is a system used to manage the content of a website. Database

A collection of pieces of information that is organized and used on a computer.

MySQL Is a relational database management system based on structured query language.

Operational Terms

Modeling is the process of using software to create a mathematical representation of a three

dimensional object or shape? The created is called a 3D model and these three dimensional

models are used in a variety of industries. All used 3D models to visualize, simulate and render

graphic designs.

Maya Render The process of adding realism to a computer graphics by adding three

dimensional qualities such as shadows and variations in colour and shade.

Unity is a cross-platform game engine developed by Unity Technologies and used to develop

video games for PC, consoles, mobile devices and websites.

Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor developed and published by Adobe

Systems for macOS and Windows.
