Horohoro School

Week 9, Term 3, 2017

We would like to congratulate our Jack Te Nahu speech finalists who did an amazing job last
night. You did our school proud. An extra congratulations goes tho Leshaya for bringing home
the Lester Crampton People's Choice award.

Haparangi - This week we have been very busy in Haparangi. The tamariki have been completing
their poitukohu (basketball) and poiwhana (soccer) assessments for their portfolios. Next week we will
be completing more assessments too. We cant wait to share our amazing learning journey with you
all. If it is fine next Wednesday we are going to visit a couple of the places that Ihenga named. First,
we will be heading to Mourea to check out the Ohau Channel and the Kaituna River. Ask your child if
they can tell you about these two significant places. If we have enough time, we will than carry on
around to Lake Rotoiti Holiday Park to take a glimpse of the lake. Ask your tamaiti what Potakatawhiti
found in this lake. Finally, if we have enough time we will head back to town to check out Lake
Rotorua.

Kearoa-Last week we had our speech presentations. The students were nervous but all acted cool
calm and collected. Lots of work went into their speeches and they were proud to show them to their
peers. Thanks to the whnau who came to tautoko their tamariki. It made it more special to present to
an audience.
The pizza, reading winners were also drawn on Friday. Eliza, Josh, Kataraina P. and Taimana got to
share a whole pizza with their mates. I have shared their pics on Facebook.
Whaea Rachell - 0211112782, rachell@horohoro.school.nz
Pokaitu- We have had a full week of testing, assessments and preparing mahi for student portfolios.
As we near the end of term three, we prepare for Pokaitus Walk-a-thon. I hope you and your tamariki
have had a chance to raise some putea as this will go directly towards their personal camp fees. Next
week we will have another fish and chip voucher for the student who makes an honest effort to collect
sponsorship for the Walk-a-thon. Finally I would like to congratulate Leshaya, Matiu and Isaiah who
represented Horohoro School in the Jack Te Ngahu Speech competition last night at the Ngakuru
town hall. Special thumbs up to Leshaya who came away as the peoples choice winner. Myself and
the other teachers were so proud of our tauira.
