Related Documentation
EMC provides a variety of document types to support our products. Enduser
documents include user guides, hardware installation guides, administrator guides,
software guides, part replacement guides, release notes, and others. Integration
documents describe how to integrate Data Domain systems with third party backup
applications, and compatibility matrices show which components are compatible with
each other.
This document refers to other EMC documents by title. To locate a referenced
document, go to the EMC Support website at https://support.emc.com, enter the
document title in the search box, and click the search button.
Note
Hard copies of a document may be out of date. Always check for the current version
of a document before you start an upgrade or begin a significant configuration change.

DIMM Replacement and Upgrade
l Only trained and qualified personnel should be allowed to install or replace this
equipment.
l During the procedure, wear a grounding wrist strap to avoid ESD damage to the
equipment.
l Replacement or addition of a DIMM requires removal of the SP module. Never
attempt service while the SP module is still in the chassis.
l For replacement or upgrade DIMMs, use only DIMMs from a Data Domain memory
spares kit.
CAUTION
Power may remain active for up to three minutes after removing the power
cords. A DD2200 system may continue to run on battery for three minutes
or more after AC power has been removed. Wait until all of the LEDs are
dark, indicating the power is fully off, before servicing components.
4. Disconnect all cables from the cable management arm (CMA, DD2500 system
only) and from the rear of the system.

b. Pull the CMA outward and away from the rear of the system.
The SP module is heavy. Use two people or a mechanical lift to move the module.
Procedure
1. From the rear of the chassis, squeeze the left and right blue SP latch handles to
release the latches. Then pull down on the latches.
Figure 3 Blue SP latch handle
2. Still holding onto the open SP latches, pull the SP module partly away from the
chassis.
CAUTION
Do not attempt to pull the SP module from the chassis using an orange-
colored I/O module handle.
3. Grasp the sides of the unit to pull out and fully remove the module from the
chassis.
4. Place the SP module onto an appropriate work surface. The top view of the SP
module is shown in the photo (the rear of the system is to the left in the photo).

Grasp the second airduct by the shallow indentations as shown in the next
photo.
Note
Perform an Upgrade
The bottom of the photo is the front of the system. The left group of 4 DIMM slots
from left to right are labeled CHAD0, CHAD1, CHBD0, and CHBD1. The right group of
4 DIMM slots are labeled CHDD1, CHDD0, CHCD1, and CHCD0.
If you are performing a memory upgrade:
l A DD2500 system contains either 4 x 8 GB or 8 x 8 GB memory DIMMs. The base
system DIMMs are located in slots labeled CHAD0, CHBD0, CHCD0 and CHDD0.
An expanded system contains a DIMM in each of the 8 slots.
l A DD2200 system contains either 2 x 4 GB or 4 x 4 GB memory DIMMs. The base
system DIMMs are located in slots labeled CHAD0 and CHBD0. An expanded
system contains a DIMM in slots labeled CHAD0, CHBD0, CHCD0 and CHDD0.
The following two figures show the DD2200 System before and after the memory
upgrade.

CAUTION
Make sure you are wearing a grounding wrist strap to avoid ESD damage to the
equipment.
Procedure
1. Press down on the side release latches for the DIMM.

2. While holding the latches down, grasp the DIMM by its edges and pull the
module slowly upward.
Note
3. Install a DIMM by pushing it into place until the two latches are secured.
Note
Note
3. To secure the SP module, pull up on the two side latches until they click into the
chassis and are firmly locked into place.
Note
2. On the DD2500 system, install the cable management arm and organize the rear
cables.

that the system reports the correct amount of memory. Output will look similar
to the following (DD2200 output shown):
# system show meminfo
Memory Usage Summary
Total memory: 14989 MiB
Free memory: 259 MiB
Total swap: 6143 MiB
Free swap: 790 MiB
4. Compare the Total memory displayed on your DD2200 system with the
display provided in Step 1.
5. Run enclosure show memory to verify all DIMMs are discovered. Output
will look similar to the following (DD2200 output shown):
# enclosure show memory
This command may take up to a minute to complete. Please wait...
Enclosure 1
Number of DIMMS : 4
Memory Size: 16384 MiB
Note
Connect a console for this procedure. These systems do not support use of KVM.
Procedure
1. If the system does not boot up properly, stop the boot process.
2. Boot to offline diagnostics and follow the steps provided there. Depending on
the diagnostics that are selected, this process could take 30 to 60 minutes.
Note
Refer to the EMC Data Domain Operating System Offline Diagnostics Suite Users
Guide for your operating system. See Related Documentation on page 2.
