Using practical negotiation frameworks this session will focus on tips on how negotiate relationships with other
agencies, research and universities, gallery relationships, subcontractors and photographers.

Following on from the negotiation skills session, we will look at best practice around communication, initiating
relationships and record keeping for effective stakeholder management. Well use a framework for mapping
stakeholders to ensure we can prioritise stakeholders efficiently and effectively. Not all stakeholders are created
equal!

Reputation, culture, finance, fraud, complianceall of these are real risks facing the viability of non-profit
organisations every day. Reviewing these risks with your Board will enable you to identify all compliance and
operational risks within your organisation and assess the likelihood, impact and how to mitigate them.

This session will provide an opportunity to reflect and think through the key products you are selling and how to
market them in a competitive market. What is the unique offering of your art centre and what makes it different to
the art centre down the road? Are you marketing artists and art? Developing emerging artists? Are you marketing
culture or tourism? What key strategies do you have and what to you need to market your art centre successfully.

Some topics are hard to broach. In this session we will examine the practical skills youll need to ensure you can have
high quality conversations when you need to.

This session is designed like a checklist of the HR responsibilities of managers. We will go through art worker
induction, performance management, connecting skills from the arts worker PD week back to the Art Centre as well
as contracts and payslips.

While art centre managers come and go, art centre boards are a constant and can provide strong support in
relationship building with both community and external stakeholders. Well examine the key behavioural outcomes
that indicate good governance and some practical strategies you might consider to engage the board in relationship
building.

Succession planning begins as soon as you start the job. Well explore how good succession planning can feed into

MEET SOME OF OUR SPEAKERS

Sally Clifford Matrix on Board


Sally is the General Manager of Northern Australia Matrix on Board. She has over 20 years experience in managing
arts and cultural development programs, organisations and festivals in Queensland and Western Australia. She has
particular experience working with non-profits, in the arts, arts/health, Indigenous and youth sector. Before working
at Matrix, she was the Director/ CEO at Warlayirti Artists Aboriginal Corporation in Balgo and as such is passionate
about innovation, effectiveness and sustainability for service delivery in remote and Indigenous communities.

Joanna Henryks Matrix on Board


Joanna is based in Alice Springs. She has over 20 years experience in business, management, communications,
research, facilitation and consulting roles across public, private and academic sectors. She has taught marketing
communications at a tertiary level for over a decade while consulting with the private sector in a range of industries
from retail to fast moving consumer goods and the telecommunications industry. Her qualifications include a PhD
(Consumer Behaviour) an MBA (AGSM), Graduate Diploma in Counselling, and a Bachelor of Business.

Barbara Clifford The Time Tamer


Barbara Clifford has spent over 20 years working in time precious industries such as film, hospitality and
marketing. She has always had a passion for creating order out of chaos; to make sense of things. She is based in
Alice Springs and delivers training via skype and online training programs to a range of businesses including
Australian Institute of Management courses at CDU. Barbaras professional experience has included contracts with
small business, not for profits, Aboriginal organisations, media, marketing, aged care and health services.
