Title No More Victims

Abstract To call upon the university and board of trustees to adopt policies that will expand
student accessibility to self-defense measures. These options include, but are not
limited to, adopting concealed carry policies akin to those implement by the University
of Texas at Austin in line with the Ohio Revised Code and treating stung guns, or
tazers in the same manner as mace and pepper spray.
___________________________________________________________________________________

SECTION I: WHEREAS university policy currently hinders the ability of students to adequately
defend themselves against credible and imminent threats1;

SECTION II: NOTING a trend in violent crime occurring near campus and an increase in attacks on
Capital University Students2/3/4;

SECTION III: WHEREAS Capital University has earned a rating of C on campus safety and
experiences higher rates of violent crimes relative to other schools nationally5;

SECTION IV: WHEREAS universities that have adopted similar policies have seen dramatic
increases in student saftey6;

SECTION V: LET IF FURTHER BE ENACTED that the Board of Trustees shall revise the Student
Code of Conduct to allow for students to defend themselves within the greatest breadth
allowed by the Ohio Revised Code7.
