MONDAY: Luke 14:15-23 In Context

Just before this passage, Jesus engages a conversation about humility and
hospitality. A call to seat yourself in a place of humility rather than honor. And
further to invite the marginalized, those unable to repay you, and as such,
ones reward will be repaid at the resurrection.

TUESDAY: Luke 14:15-23 Come and Get It!
For some reason, I envision Ma Kettle, or Granny from the series Beverly
Hillbillies, ringing a bell and saying come and get it. The slave announces to
guests that dinner is ready. They answered the invite, showed up, but did not
eat.
PRAYER: Forgive me for when I did not embrace the fullness of your invitation
to me, Lord.
WEDNESDAY: Luke 14:15-23 Excuse #1
The first excuse is related to ones land and the desire to go check on it. What
excuses do you make that pertain to your possessions?
PRAYER: Whatever things I have, help me to prioritize their place in my life.

SERMON
Scripture: Luke 14:15-23 (NLT)
Hearing this, a man sitting at the table with Jesus exclaimed, What a blessing
it will be to attend a banquet in the Kingdom of God!
Jesus replied with this story: A man prepared a great feast and sent out
many invitations. When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to tell
the guests, Come, the banquet is ready. But they all began making excuses.
One said, I have just bought a field and must inspect it. Please excuse me.
Another said, I have just bought five pairs of oxen, and I want to try them
out. Please excuse me. Another said, I just got married, so I cant come.
The servant returned and told his master what they had said. His master
was furious and said, Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and
invite the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame. After the servant had
done this, he reported, There is still room for more. So his master said, Go
out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to
come, so that the house will be full.

Instead of dinner, the guest preferred to go check out his new oxen, (today, My Notes:
better said iPhone).PRAYER: When I desire interaction with inanimate objects
over relationships with you and others, remind me, convict me.

FRIDAY: Luke 14:15-23 Excuse #3

The third excuse is marriage (another relationship). Me and mine is a common
excuse. We can use the excuse of family to forego Gods invitation.
PRAYER: May I invite Gods presence and sustenance into all of my
relationships.

SATURDAY: Luke 14:15-23 The Invitation Stands

Instead of cancelling dinner, the master extends the invitation to those in the
highways; to those socially on the outs. The power of this invitation is that it
stands, it reaches those who will receive it, say yes and embrace the fullness of
it.
