LESSON PLAN ONE A - Wondering at the Creator

Teaching Focus for the Lesson Key Understanding/Learning Point

A1: Wondering At Being Special A1: Wondering at being special
(Being in the image of God, the human individual possess the A1.1: Recognises their own name
dignity of a person, who is not just something, but someone- A1.2: Names ways in which each person is special
Catechism, 357).

When we look around us, we see many people. There are

those at our school and in our neighbourhood. Sometimes our
parents take us to an event where we see many more people.
However, in the whole world, there is no one else like each of
us.

Each of us is special. Each of us is so special that our parents

have chosen a name just for us. Our full name, that is Christian
name and surname, is special because it tells us, and others
who we are and to which family we belong.

Just as each of us has our own name, we also have our own
giftedness because we are special. We are able to do so
many things. Some things we can do just like others, such as
hop, skip, jump, laugh, colour in and help. However, whatever
we can do is done somewhat differently from others. This is
also what makes us special or one of a kind.

My Special Name

Dear Parents,

This term in Religious Education we will be spending some time focusing on

the unit Special Me. This unit is about the children recognising that they are
special in both their own eyes and in Gods eyes. Part of being special is to
have your own name, which will be the first aspect that we are going to explore
in this unit. In this unit we cover specialness and prayer.

Could you please take the time to answer this letter with your child/children.
We will be having a discussion on these answers in class.

Thank you.
