Payyappalli mana Unnikrishnan

The only impossible journey, they say, is the one you never began.
Looking at Dr Payyappali mana Unnikrishnan's curriculum vitae, you
are left wondering 'Is there any journey at all that this young man has
never began?' Starting from a nondescript Govt. Boys School in the
small town of Manjeri, PM Unnikrishnan has the United Nations
University, International Institute of Global Health, Malaysia as his
office today. His illustrious career which has got him a MA in Medical
Anthropology from the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands and PhD
in International Development from Yokohama National University,
Japan has also seen him work in various capacities at Institute of
Advanced Studies - Japan, Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical
University - Japan, FRLHT - Bangalore, Amala Cancer Hospital and
Research Centre - Kerala and Community Development Trust-
Maharashtra. He has co-authored books on subjects ranging from
Indian Medical Heritage to Sustainable Development. There are
several research papers, articles, policy reports and databases where
PM Unnikrishnan has made noteworthy contributions. He has years of
research experience at prestigious institutions and has won various
awards, fellowships and scholarships including the Achievement
Award of The Arya Vaidya Pharmacy, Coimbatore, SJ Jindal
Scholarship for best undergraduate student, Amala Cancer Institute
Clinical Fellowship, Research Fellowship of the Institute of National
Medicine, Japan, Sir Dorabjee Tata Trust Grant and the Ford
Foundation Grant, UNU-IAS post doctoral fellowship to name just a
few. He is a teacher, thesis guide and project manager par excellence.
a common thread across his work and career has been the focus on
marginalized, traditional knowledge systems as well as practitioners
and scoping out their relevance in development practice and policy, be
it health systems or broader sustainability areas
Poonthottam Ayurvedasram is pleased to confer .Bharadvaaja Award
2017 for excellence in Ayurveda, in gracious memory of our Guru
Ashtavaidyan late Vaidyamadhom Valiya Narayanan Namboodiri to
Dr Payyappalli mana Unnikrishnan.
