Introduction:
1. The lesson will begin with students being seated on the mat.
2. To introduce todays topic of showing love to others through being
5 minutes helpful and showing forgiveness, students will view the following YouTube video
YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9diFwUly4M Love One Another
Lullaby (Pyle, 2014)
3. Reflecting on the video, the following questions will then be discussed loaded onto the
with students: interactive
- What does Jesus want us to do? whiteboard
- How does it make you feel when someone is kind to you or
helps you?
- If someone is mean to us or upsets us should we be mean back
to them and make them upset as well? What does Jesus ask
us to do instead?
Body:
4. The teacher will articulate to students that we show love and kindness
through helping others and showing forgiveness. Furthermore, in order
5 minutes to forgive others, we must change feelings of anger into feelings of
kindness (Intellectual Reserve Inc, 2017). The teacher will explain that
when we help and forgive others we are acting like Jesus.
5. The teacher will ask students to close their eyes and consider:
What would the school community be like if everyone helped
and forgave others?
What would the school community be like if no one helped or
15 forgave others?
minutes 6. The teacher will then ask students to raise their hands to share their
feelings and answers. Scenario cards
7. In groups of three or four, students will role-play various situations in Small bucket
which people either showed forgiveness and helped or did not help and
were unforgiving. One member from each group will be nominated to
select a scenario out of a bucket and practise and perform the scenario
with their group. After each performance, students will determine what
the scenario was about, commenting on what happened or what they
might do differently.
Conclusion:
8. To conclude and reflect upon the lesson, the class will create a Coloured card (cut
Helping Chain (Alison, 2014). Each student will receive a piece a card into strips)
5 minutes and write one way they are going to help someone at school. The Stapler
teacher will begin the chain and as each student finishes writing, Pencil cases
he/she will attach their piece of card to the chain which will then be
hung in the classroom.
Evidence of Learning for Assessment and Reporting
To assess whether the objectives of the lesson have been met anecdotal notes will be taken. A checklist will
be used to record whether students have, have not or are working towards achieving the objectives based on
the observations made.
