Introduction
The class is gathered quietly on the mat and the teacher starts with the following prayer:

Prayer Reverence for Human Life

5 min Almighty God, giver of all that is good, we thank You for the precious gift of human life:
For life in the womb, coming from your creative power,
For the life of children, making us glad with their freshness and promise,
For the life of young people, hoping for a better world,
For the life of people who are disabled, teaching us that every life has value,
For the life of the elderly, witnessing to the ageless values of patience and wisdom.
Like Blessed Mary, may we always say YES to Your gift. May we defend it and promote it from
conception to its natural end. And bring us at last, O Father, to the fullness of eternal life in Jesus
Christ, our Lord.
Amen.

The teacher reads the prayer again this time writing the following questions on the board for the
students to consider while listening:
What is the prayer about?
What is your favourite part of the prayer?
What could you add to the prayer?

The class then discusses the reflection questions about the prayer. The students share their
answers with the class.

Strategies for Learning and Teaching

The teacher asks the students what the gift of human life is and who gave us this gift.

5 min The students then think, pair, share with the following discussion questions.
Discussion Questions:
What will it be like to live on, after death?
How does God create the gift of human life, our souls?
What is God, who created human life, like?

The teacher explains the task to students.

5 min Students are to create a poster about the gift of human life. The poster is to be colourful and
contain artwork. Students write on the poster the questions that they would like to ask God and
comments they would like to make, about:
the miracle of human life
a persons soul living on forever
God, the Creator of human life.

The teacher asks if there are any questions and checks for understanding.

The students are moved back to their desks in small groups and are given A3 paper to create A3 Paper
their poster on.

20 min The students work independently to complete their poster. While the students work the teacher
wanders around assisting students and answering any questions that they may have.

Conclusion
The teacher gets the students attention and gets them to pack away everything except the
posters.
The teacher asks the students to share what they have written on their posters with the rest of the
class.

5 min The students then do a gallery walk around the classroom to see each others posters.

The students then return to their desks, the teacher collects the posters and the students sit
quietly waiting for further instruction.

Introduction
The teacher sits the students quietly down on the mat.

5 min The teacher reads the following bible story to the class:

Jesus and Zacchaeus - Luke 19:1-10 Bible - Jesus and Zacchaeus - Luke 19:1-10

19 He entered Jericho and was passing through it. 2 A man was there named Zacchaeus;
he was a chief tax collector and was rich. 3 He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on
account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. 4 So he ran ahead and
climbed a sycamore tree to see him, because he was going to pass that way. 5 When Jesus
came to the place, he looked up and said to him, Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I
must stay at your house today. 6 So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him. 7 All
who saw it began to grumble and said, He has gone to be the guest of one who is a
sinner. 8 Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I
will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times
as much. 9 Then Jesus said to him, Today salvation has come to this house, because he
too is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost.
The students are settled on the mat and the teacher introduces the bible story.

The class discusses the story with the following wonder questions as prompts:
What was your favourite part?
What was the most important part?
Where could you see yourself in the story?
What part of the story could be changed?
How does Jesus behave in this story?
How could we use Jesus behaviour as an example for ourselves?
Strategies for Learning and Teaching

2 min The students explore and discuss how Jesus showed respect to others using the think, pair,
share strategy.

2 min The teacher explains the task to the students. In groups, the students must create their own
story based on the respect shown by Jesus and relate it to their everyday life. The students
must then make this story into a role play.

The teacher asks the students if they have any questions and the teacher checks for
understanding.
Bible Stories - printed off:
Students are placed in to groups of approximately 5 and are given a story where Jesus The Parable of the Good Samaritan Luke
shows respect. The groups are given one of the following stories to read: 10:25-37

Blind Bartimaeus Receives His Sight Mark 10:46-52 10:46-52
Jesus Healing the Sick Matthew 14 Jesus Healing the Sick Matthew 14

The groups are sent one at a time from the mat to different areas of the classroom.

The students must plan and practice their given role plays.

15 min While the students practice the teacher roams the classroom, assisting the students and
answering any questions that they may have.

The students return to the mat quietly.

8 min The students perform their role plays to the whole class. When the students perform, the One Ipad
rest of the class must consider how respect was being shown in the role play. The students
share with the class how they think respect was being shown. Students also share what
they liked about the role plays. The students role plays will be filmed on an Ipad.
Conclusion

5 min The class has a reflective discussion using the following questions:
What did the role plays teach us?
What was your favourite role play?
What did you enjoy doing role plays and do you want to do them again?
How can we show respect like Jesus did?
The students share their answers with the class.
The students pack away all materials and sit quietly waiting for any further instructions.

Introduction
The students sit quietly on the mat in a circle.

The teacher reveals the Godly Play kit and introduces the story to the students. Godly Play Kit Jesus Heals a Paralytic

The teacher does the Godly Play Jesus Heals a Paralytic:

5 min
One day, while he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting nearby
(they had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem); and the
power of the Lord was with him to heal.

Just then some men came, carrying a paralysed man on a bed. They were trying to bring
him in and lay him before Jesus; but finding no way to bring him in because of the crowd,
they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through the tiles into the middle of
the crowd in front of Jesus.

When he saw their faith, he said, Friend, your sins are forgiven you. Then the scribes and
the Pharisees began to question, Who is this who is speaking blasphemies? Who can
forgive sins but God alone?

When Jesus perceived their questionings, he answered them, Why do you raise such
questions in your hearts? Which is easier, to say, Your sins are forgiven you, or to say,
Stand up and walk? But so, that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth
to forgive sinshe said to the one who was paralysed I say to you, stand up and take
your bed and go to your home.

Immediately he stood up before them, took what he had been lying on, and went to his
home, glorifying God. Amazement seized all of them, and they glorified God and were filled
with awe, saying, We have seen strange things today.

The students discuss the Godly Play with wonder questions.

What was your favourite part?
What was the most important part?
Where do you see yourself in this story?
What part could be removed from the story and not change its meaning?

The teacher packs away the Godly Play Kit.

Strategies for Learning and Teaching

The teacher asks the class if anyone knows what the Fifth Commandment is. The teacher
writes up the fifth commandment on the board. You shall not kill.

5 min The class discusses what the Fifth Commandment means.

Is it limited to just killing?
What does it mean to uphold it?
What does it mean to break it?
How can you live by it?

Commandment. Students must have at least 5 examples of each and they must be relevant
to the students. Students use the Ipad to create their brainstorm using the app popplet.

The students are placed in groups of approximately three students. Each group is given an
Ipad to work on. The groups are spaced evenly around the room.

15 min The students work to create their brainstorm. While the students work the teacher wanders
around the class room assisting students and answering any questions that they may have.

The students, in their groups, must then discuss their best example for obeying and
5 min disobeying the Fifth Commandment. They then share this on the class padlet which is on
the board.

Together the teacher and the class discuss the ideas which were posted in the class padlet.

The students then return the Ipads and sit down back at their desks.
Conclusion

5 min The students get their Religious Education books out and rule up. The students write a
personal reflection in the Religious Education book on:
How they keep the fifth commandment
How they have broken the commandment
What they can do to make sure they dont break the commandment

Those students who feel comfortable sharing aspects of their personal reflection are
encouraged to share and discuss with the class.

The students pack all materials away and await further instruction.
