Lack of communication in family

Communication within the family is extremely important because it enables members to

express their needs, wants, and concerns to each other. Involves the ability to pay
attention to what others are thinking and feeling. In other words, an important part of
communication is not just talking, but listening to what others have to say. But what
happens when there is lack of dialogue and understanding in the family?

Here is some of the causes of lack of communication in the family:

The lack of patience: This is a factor that contributes greatly to the problems of family
communication. Lack of patience can be one of the most damaging aspects when it
comes to levels of closeness and affection in most families. An irritable parent, or even
an irritable child can be quite complicated to handle under certain circumstances. The
easiest way to resolve situations like these then is to ignore the person in question as it
is a much simpler escape route. As we see, this always leads to a lack of family
communication.

Lack of time to be together: The lack of time to spend with family members is a clear
reason for the lack of communication in families. And it makes a lot of sense. If one has
an accelerated pace of life, it is no surprise that parents do not find time to be with their
children, or the husband with his wife. It is almost heartbreaking to see the family lose
its closeness for reasons that would seem almost trivial.

Lack of Discipline: This is the worst problem when it comes to lack of family
communication in adolescence, and also with children. A child who misbehaves could
ruin the peace of a family. The worst is that while parents may have a certain
semblance of control when the child is small, this could leak out of the hands as he
grows up, leading to an environment in constant disinterest in the family.

Effects of lack of family communication:

A study published in July 2003 shows that many couples with problems of lack of
communication end in divorce. In addition to the impact that divorce has on parents,
the effect on children can be devastating. The lack of communication in the family often
has to do with psychological problems in children and adolescents, emotional and
behavioral. Family communication problems can also be extended to the wider
community and beyond, when these same ineffective communication styles are
implemented in the workplace, at school and in other social settings
