THE GEOCODING TOOL

You can access the Geocoding tool by opening a 8 bit file (Disc Options / Open 8 bit File).

This tool allows the user to geocode a 8 bit file.

Geocoding process translate the raw image in a given geographic datum. The resulting
image is georeferenced, and any pixel can be accessed with its geographic coordinates.

Procedures

1/ Open a 8 bit file (.ic1 or .img) (Disc Options / Open 8 bit File)
2/ Determine the four Reference Points (See The Reference Point Tool Section).
Note the converted geographic coordinates of the four corners for the blank matrix creation.
3/ Create a blank matrix (.ic1 or .img) according to the From 4 Corners method (See Section
Disc Options Menu / Create Blank Matrix function of this manual). The matrix has to be
larger than the map : add about 500 meters to the coordinates of the matrix corners.
4/ Select the tool by clicking (8 left button) directly over its icon
5/ Designate the previously created blank matrix (.ic1 or .img) in the following File loading
box.
6/ The following Geocode box opens :

This box presents several commands :

Loads the reference file .ref gathering the reference points previously saved via the
button

Saves the position of the reference points in a .ref file

Displays the file located behind the current file

Runs the geocoding process
:
Closes the box.
7/ Save the position of the reference points in a .ref file by clicking over the
button (8 left button).
8/ Designate the path and the name of the .ref file in the following File loading box and
validate by clicking over the Save button (8 left button).
The following message box opens :

9/ Close the box by clicking over the OK button (8 left button).

10/ Run the geocoding via the button (8 left button).
A message box indicates the end of the process :

11/ Close the box by clicking over the OK button (8 left button).
12/ Close the Geocode box by clicking over the button (8 left button).
The geocoding is completed.
