Discuss your opinion on the correlation of the systemic view of cognitivist learning to spiritual

development.

Spiritual development is an internal, individual journey that each person experiences. We learn

from our past experiences and reflect on them so that we can make better choices in the future.

On our spiritual journey, we learn by reading the Bible, listening to sermons at church,

worshipping, prayer, and internal reflection. We add on to the knowledge and experiences with

direction from God to make sure we are on the right spiritual path. This internal process of

learning and growth is very much a cognitivist approach to learning.

Explore how social cognitivist manifestations are so prevalent in how Jesus modeled and guided

the disciples.

Jesus was a mentor and teacher who led by example. He was a model example of how everyone

should live their lives. His followers were able to observe his teaching and actions to reflect in

their own lives. As the disciples walked with Jesus, He provided guidance to them as well as

reinforcement for appropriate behavior as they learned. Jesus used parables to tell stories, which

helped the learners to visualize the actions and outcomes so they could apply it to their

situations. This process of learning was done from a social cognitivist perspective.

Incorporate at least one scriptural example of how biblical figures align with cognitivist

approaches to learning.

1 Corinthians 4:16New King James Version (NKJV)

16 Therefore I urge you, imitate me.

Paul was talking to the Corinthians and urging them to imitate him. This is an example of

cognitivist learning where the instructor is telling the students to model his behavior.

Incorporate at least one scriptural example of how biblical figures conflict with cognitivist

approaches to learning.

Proverbs 23:7New King James Version (NKJV)

7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. Eat and drink! he says to you, But his heart is not with

you.

I chose this verse because it seems to warn against thinking or warning others of the internal

thoughts of people they may encounter. This was a difficult one for me because I think

cognitivist learning can be a good thing or a bad thing. We can think and ponder good or bad

things. I believe this particular verse is referring to someone having bad thoughts and the person

should be wary and not trust them. In the world, we come into contact with good and evil. We

can learn from either one. Children are good examples of how this happens. If they are brought

up in an abusive home, they may have tendencies to be abusive when they become adults. They

observe the bad behavior and imitate it.
