General Safety Rules
Safety comes first!
Comply with all company standards, safety rules, laws, and local
and industry standards
Maintain and test the tools according to applicable standards (IEEE,
ASTM, IEC, etc.)
Hold a pre-work meeting before starting the job
Use the tools appropriate for the job to be done
Inspect all tools and equipment prior to starting the job
Clean all Epoxiglas surfaces before starting the job and after
finishing
When not in use properly store the tools in a clean and protected
place and never on the ground
Observe minimum approach distances for the voltage being worked
Minimum Approach Distance (MAD)
Sticks are not rated
Tested at 100kV per foot
Condition of hot stick affects insulation

Epoxiglas Maintenance
The most common damage
comes from impacts,
abrasions, or from using the
tool as a pry bar
Typical repairs:
Replacing damaged or
missing components
Repair small surface ruptures
Restoration of the gloss
finish
Epoxiglas Testing

Testing Epoxiglas Tools:


Minimum once every two
years or according to local
standards
After any repair
If there is any suspicion that
the tool is not insulating
properly
Follow the procedures for
ASTM, IEC, IEEE, or local
standards

Any defects
Contamination
Damaged, loose, or missing components
Clean regularly
Water and neutral soap or Moisture Eater II for line
hose, polyethylene covers, and blankets
Only water and neutral soap for ABS plastic covers
Use Silicone wipes or spray to lubricate the interior of
line hoses
Damaged covers Remove from Service
Store all covers and blankets in a clean, dry, and
protected area out of direct sun light
Store blankets rolled up never folded
We recommend using storage tubes

every 12 months or according to local standards

Design tested per ASTM D1050
Per ASTM F478 perform electrical testing if electrical

Design tested per ASTM D1048 and IEC 61112
Per ASTM F479 and IEC 61112 perform periodic testing
at least once a year or per the local standards
