INTRODUCTION
PROCEDURE
c) Click the new project button then the following box will appear. Select the plane
option & unit as meters & kiloNewton, and then click next.
Figure 2.3
e) A new screen appears as shown in Figure 2.4. The screen has five major
elements as described below
a) Menu Bar
-The menu bar is located at the top of the screen and it gives full access to all facilities
of
STAAD/Pro
b) Tool Bar
-The double tool bar gives access to the most frequently used commands. We can
create our customized tool bar.
c) Main Window
-This is the largest area at the Centre of screen, where model drawing and results are
displayed in pictorial form.
d) Page control
I. The structure geometry consist of joint numbers and their coordinates, member
numbers and their numbers. Select geometry from menu bar and click on Nodes
or we can add node directly in the grid that appears in the main window. To
remove the grid from the structure. Enter the node coordinate of our frame
in the window that appears as shown in Figure 2.5.

II. Click the right button of the mouse and take Label from it. Thus we get a table as
shown below. From the table tick on Node number, Beam number and Member
number then click apply & ok .
2) Support creation
To create a support click on the Support icon on the left side tool bar. In the support
dialog box (Figure 2.8 (a)) select create button. In the create support dialog box Figure
2.8 (b) select the fixed tab and click on the assign button to assign the support.
(a) (b)
Our next task is to assign cross section properties to beams & columns.
Click on Property page icon located from the left side of the screen. Properties dialog box
comes up (figure 2.10). Click define button in the box.
Now click Rectangle tab on the property tab page appears as shown in Figure 2.11.

4) Specifying loads
From the load box select load cases details. Now select new tab icon.
Now we get a table Create new definition/load case/load item. Select the load items as
dead load, live load &combination load. Select suitable factor on combination load.
Selection of dead load is shown in Figure 2.14
Select one load, then click add button. Specify the values for that load. Same procedure is
adopted for all loads. Live load may have different types like udl, concentrated load etc.

7) Diagrams
By selecting the icons corresponding to deflection, bending moment, shear force from the
menu bar we get the diagrams as shown in Figure 2.19, 2.20, 2.21
Select the IS code from the table so obtained. Click the select parameter option on the
table.
(a) (b)
(c)
Then double click each member. We get the design result each member as shown in
Figure 2.28, 2.29.
