EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Industry exposure is the most crucial part of the management studies in which a
student is able to synchronize his technical knowledge with practical knowledge gained in the
any of the organization. I chose the project at Ambica & co titled A Study Of Overall
Functions Of Ambica & co, Virudhunagar. which is a great learning experience. I hope that
the words of projects will communicate the actual of experienced gained with subtlety and
precision, which is unapproachable, by any other means.

Ambica & co Facility is one of the Tamilnandus largest Chicory manufacturing


facility under one roof. Spread across an area of more than 34 acres, Ambica & co facility
employs more than40 people. Chicory Root from Gujarat and Utter Pradesh are provide a
main and stable supply of input material for this plant.

The study helped me understand and gain more knowledge about process carried out
in an organization. The purpose of this report is to examine the various processes undertaken
at Ambica & co, Virudhunagar. The report includes the functions of various departments like
Production department, Finance department, Quality Control department, Sales department
etc.

The study started with understanding of the Chicory industry. Then the complete
information about the company was analyzed. The organisation structure was also examined.
After gaining enough knowledge about the industry and company, the functional areas were
analyzed. The day-to-day activities of each and every department were studied.

Introduction:

Industry Profile:
Ambica & Co., is one of the Instant Chicory Powder manufacturing company
established in 1990 at Virudhunagar by Mr.B.Kannan with 10 years experience in Chicory
Powder manufacturing field. This industry is mainly based on mass production of various
qualities or thickness of instant Chicory powder.

The powder we made is from the best quality raw materials using advanced
manufacturing techniques that are appreciated by the client for their accurate thickness of
instant Chicory powder in various qualities. The motto of our company is to provide great
quality product with full customer satisfaction at an affordable and profitable price to
customer.

The teams of qualified and experienced sales executives are available to interact with
the customers for investigation of all qualities of instant Chicory powder. Adequate
manufacturing facilities are leading to economics in scale of production and attractive prices
and also flexibility for small batch and large volume production.

Our industry by its high quality, timely delivery, offers and latest manufacturing
technology and effective management technique makes our product to be well qualified to be
used for mixing 50 % -60 % in coffee.

Our plant capacity is 2500 MT per year. We have facility for Roasting and Grinding
of Chicory. For Instant Chicory Powder we do job work. Being a quality driven organization,

History of Chicory in India:
Prior to the 1950s chicory was not cultivated in India. So all South Indian Filter Coffee had
European imported chicory.

In the late 1950s the first chicory seeds were imported and cultivation began in South India.
It wasn't until 1971 businesses realised that chicory cultivation in the South wasn't of the
quality they saw in the imported variety. It was here when one family decided to go to the
North West of India and begin cultivation. This saw immediate results in the quality of
chicory, and today India has become one of the finest producers of premium grade chicory.

The family processes chicory from "FARM to CUP. In the first step the Chicory seeds
imported from France are distributed to the farmers during September / October for growing.
Contracts are made with the farmers for quality & quantity. The harvesting of the roots are
planned for mid-March to mid-May every year. The company owns the complete harvest
handling equipment right from receiving the fresh roots from the farmers, cleaning, washing,
dicing, sun drying & eventually packing & storage.

The next step is roasting, once the harvest is completed, the company roasts the Chicory in its
own facility in South India. This is where we specify the exact requirements as per our lab
analysis.

The family owns a roasting factory in South India where it can roast the Chicory as per our
requirements. The working environment inside the roasting factory is maintained to meet
with the standards of food safety and also to provide a safe working environment for the
workers.

When our founder Mr.B.Kannan started the business of coffee in the year 1985, he
realized that sourcing good quality coffee and chicory was extremely difficult. Refusing to
compromise on the quality standards, he set up his own coffee and chicory roasting unit in 1990;
Coffee became his one and only passion.

With an ample amount of capital and hard work, Maharaja Chicory has grown as one of
the leading brands in the chicory market in India. We deal with finest quality of chicory from
Gujarat.

His two sons - Pradeep and Radeep, who entered the family business in the year 2009.
Their science background further enhanced their inherited passion for chicory and coffee. By
infusing new ideas and technology, they translated traditional methods to modern production
process while retaining the original "Ambica" taste

When a product to be produced, we need a proper planning. So we require drawing
for producing a product. Then we need a process flowchart for knowing how the process is
going to be carried out. We see the requirement of the drawings and check weather materials
are available or not. Then we need to see the quality tolerance has to be maintained then the
production planning is done.

Our company is very well known name in the industry of supplying large amount of
Roasted chicory and dry instant chicory powder.

As per the clients requirement, We source chicory roots from highly qualified
reputed vendors.

Our instant chicory powder raw materials are cultivated and they are very wall in sun
drying for 3 months after that roots are sliced and it will be reach to the company for bettor
taste and better quality of the product.
