Op-Amp:

Experiment 2 (MCU 3053)

The Linear Operational Amplifier (Op-Amp) is supposed to give an output voltage that is a
multiple of the input signal.

There are two circuit configuration for Op-Amp:

1. Non-Inverted Op-Amp.
2. Inverted Op-Amp.

PART I: Non-Inverted Op-Amp

Vout = Av * Vin

Av = (1 + Rf / Ri) (Non-Inverting Op-Amp: Calculated Voltage Gain Formula)

Av = Vout / Vin (Measured Voltage Gain Formula)

where:
Av - the gain of the amplifier
Rf - Feedback Resistance
Ri - Input Resistance

Figure 1: NON-INVERTED AMPLIFIER CIRCUIT CONFIGURATION

Using the diagram figure 1, construct the circuit. Using the Oscilloscope, set the frequency of
the function generator to 1 KHz at a voltage of 100mV peak to peak. Apply this signal to the
positive input (Non-Inverting Input) of your amplifier and measure the output: Now determine
the Measured Voltage Gain of the Non-Inverting Amplifier and record in the Table 1 below:
Also, Calculate The Voltage Gain of the Non-Inverting Amplifier and Record in the Table
below: How close are the Measured and Calculated voltage Gain?

Replace the 10K resistor with a 47 k and 100K and repeat the measurements:

2. An inverting op amp has a gain of 100 and needs an input impedance of 1.5
K. Knowing that input impedance (Zin) is equal to Ri in an ideal op amp,
calculate what will be the value for Ri and Rf? (5 Marks)

AV = 100
Zin= 1.5 K
Zin = Ri

AV = -Rf / Ri

100 = -Rf / 1.5 k

-RF = 150 k

RF = -150 k

3. Calculate the output voltage, V0 if V1 = 0.2 V and V2 = 0 V. (5 Marks)

Figure 3
Vout = ( -Rf / Ri ) x V1

Vout = (- 330 k33 kx -0.2

= 2V

4. Construct the circuit of a non-inverting op amp with a gain of 2. Make sure that
the op amp is powered with connections to pin 4 (-15 V) and pin 7 (+15 V). The
pin out assignment is shown in Figure 3 for the LM741 Operational Amplifier.

Figure 4: Pin out assignments for the LM741 Operational Amplifier

Use the function generator to apply an input voltage of 5 Vpp to the amplifier
with a frequency of 10 Hz with a 0 dc offset. Run the simulation and observe
the output and input signals via oscilloscope.

b) Measure the following parameters: (5 Marks)

Value
Input voltage
Output voltage
Voltage at pin 2
Voltage between pin 2 and pin 3

c) Change the amplifier to a gain of 20 and repeat steps (a) and (b) and record
the results. Is there any difference with the results in (b)? Explain the
difference and give your reasons. You may refer to the datasheet of the op
