TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Happy activities in the community only accept professionals, meaning that anyone who is not
professional will not survive. Because they are not able to compete with others who are more
professional or also more competitive a profession. If the profession is uncompetitive and
unprofessional, then with itself will result in the death or loss of the profession from society. This
is certainly very contrary to the 21st century society (a unit of technological society, open
society, and civil society) that demands human development, and that is impossible without a
professional teacher.

These professional teachers are expected to bring or bring their students across the world of
science and technology to enter the 21st century society that is literate science and technologist,
and very competitive. If teachers do not endorse science and technology, it is impossible for
them to help and guide their students through the world of knowledge and technology.

Mastery of science and technology by professional teachers is not a half-hearted knowledge

but a complete mastery of science and technology, as science and technology itself develops
rapidly. Teachers who do not have strong knowledge, complete and half-half will be scattered
and unable to follow the development of science and technology. He will be far behind, and
eventually will be left behind from his profession.

So it is clear that the teaching profession is a profession that must constantly evolve because
the practical education will continue to occur and unique to each individual and the masyarkaat
in different situations and times in accordance with the development of science and technology.
This indication means that teachers as actors of the educational process must constantly change
themselves, so they have strong knowledge, complete and not half as an educational
professional.

A. Teacher Profession Mining Strategy

In order to develop the professionalism of teachers in a sustainable manner can be done with
various strategies, among others as follows:

Participate in competency-based training. A focused form of training is the specific skills

that teachers need to effectively carry out their tasks.
Participate in traditional training courses and courses (including advanced education). In-
service workshops, seminars, undergraduate / post-graduate lectures, conferences are long-
established forms of choice of education and are recognized as being valuable. Although it
is recognized that often the various forms of traditional courses / training are often unable
to meet the practical needs of the teacher's work. Therefore, a combination of academic
material with field experience will be most effective for the development of this course /
training course. Meanwhile, as part of traditional training, teachers can also develop their
professionalism through further education at universities / LPTKs.
Read and write other scientific journals or papers. As it is known that journals or other
forms of scientific papers are continuously produced by individual authors, educational
institutions and other institutions. Journals or other forms of scientific works are scattered
and can be found in various learning resource centers (libraries, internet, and so on).
Although the article in the journal tends to be short, it leads its readers to new concepts
and views to leading to new planning and research. It also has news columns relating to
meetings, exhibitions, seminars, educational programs, and so forth that may be of interest
to teachers. Therefore, by reading and understanding many other journals or scientific
papers in the field of education related to the teaching profession, then the teacher by itself
can develop his professionalism.
Do research (especially classroom action research). Classroom action research that is a
systematic study of teachers through collaboration or not with education experts in order
to reflect and as much as improving the practice of continuous learning is also an
appropriate strategy to improve the professionalism of teachers. Teachers' reflective
reflections are conducted to improve rational stability, deepen their duties, and improve
the conditions under which learning practices last will be useful as educational
innovations.
Work with other professionals in the school. Some people tend to think rather than go out
to get help or information that it will be easier to communicate with people in the same
workplace. Formal and informal meetings to discuss various educational issues or issues
including working together on other activities (eg planning, implementing and evaluating
school programs), teachers and other professional staff can help teachers update their
knowledge. Participating in these activities can keep the mind up and unlock the insights
that enable teachers to continue to get the information they need and at the same time
make the planning to get it.

In conclusion if the teacher fully benefits from various self-development strategies as

described above, then the teacher will gain a wealth of information. If the wealth of
information combined in full will be able to help teachers to acquire intact and strong
knowledge and technology, excellent personality, and be able to motivate and increase
students' interest in science and technology that is indispensable in living their lives in 21st
century society which is full of excitement. In other words, the integrated implementation of
these professional teacher development strategies will help to effectively maintain teacher
professional development programs.
